“Final” discussions on INS Vikramaditya

Rear Admiral Prem Kumar Nair of the Indian Navy with Sevmash DG N Kalistratov and Rosoboronexport officials following the “final discussions” of the financing of the refurbishment of the Admiral Gorshkov/INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier earlier this month. The discussions also included officials from the JSC Nevskoye Design Bureau. Sevmash DG Kalistratov said, “In the near future the project shall be additionally financed, that allows increasing the number of workers on the ship up to 2500 people, the intensity of works will rise. The updated schedule of all types of aircraft carrier tests for 2011-2012 was also signed.” According to a Sevmash statement, “It should be noted that due to the insufficient financing of works in the last two years Sevmash is behind of schedule. In the remaining period the time shall be compensated.”

On March 23, the Russkies said, “Sevmash have not got payments from the Indian party for two years and that did not allow expanding works on the ship in full. After receiving additional funds the enterprise shall be able to accelerate the work.”

  1. india bought this ship for 946 million and this is pretty cheap for the ship being built inside out with all new systems(which a new built aircraft carrier will employ)

and for delay let me remind u one thing a scorpene submarine being built takes 6-7 years to operationalize

a p17 frigate taking same 7 years to operationalize and how long p15a will take??????????????

for mig29k there are no fully trained pilots as u all know that naval pilots still in training and will take 8-10 months more

  2. Sevmash have not got payments from the Indian party for two years and that did not allow expanding works on the ship in full. After receiving additional funds the enterprise shall be able to accelerate the work

so then why the hell our admiral was shouting for price hike

at 946 million for this ship is pretty cheap

and india still has to pay 246 million more to cover up and make it to 946 million

and as for delay of this ship scorpene sub indction has been delayed for 2 years and total time since scorpene bought to induction now will be over 9 years

now both p15a,p17 are delayed as well

and why the hell admiral's tonge is quite over DCN and MDL now

  3. So does the Indian Navy finally get what it paid for?

Carrier, MiG-29K Fulcrums, trained pilots, armaments, spares and aviation fuel = 946 mil

  4. The Mig-29k came as a separate deal. The deal was $950mill + $550 mill. 550 mill for Mig-29k.

The Russians jacked up the price to $2.2 bill from the earlier $964mill.

    Still cheap.

  5. The Russians jacked up the price to $2.2 bill from the earlier $964mill.

did india paid anything if not so whats the point of saying this

even if it becomes 2.2 billion it will still be cheaper than what we have to pay for new ship

and india not going to pay what russia ask most probable pice for gorshkov will be increased by 300-500 million and that will cost between 1.3 to 1.5 billion

now the carrier being built at CSL is projected to have cost between 4-5 billion and what is surity it will come on time that is 2016

  7. a 24000 tons san antonio class ship cost over 2 billion US bucks

gorshkov will still be cheaper at 2.2 billion even if india has to pay this much which is highly unlikely
