EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Gripen Demo Continues Testing In Sweden

Photos taken during a March 12 test-flight of the Gripen NG demo airplane. Since there’s been so much interest about why the Demo hasn’t been able to come to India for the MMRCA flight evaluation trials (FETs), here’s why — it’s stuck with its own schedule in Sweden.

  1. Some people apparently don't think. They sent the D version! Oh noes the are so out!

But what if the D version passes the trials? Will that mean that the NG would have failed them? Since its a much much worse aircraft. Or was it the other way around?

  2. NG should be very superior to the D-model.

But as NJS observed I also believe that SAAB have lost hope. Sweden is a small and insignificant country. Which plane is the better choice is not at all important in big defence deals. If any competitor is even close to as good as Gripen (and they are) they will win the deal even if Gripen comes out as best choice.

Like in Brasil KX-2 fighter deal. The military and the industry prefer Gripen above Superhornet and Rafale. Still Rafale will win even though it ranked last of the 3deals, the industry does not want it and it is also by far the most expensive.

Obviously Dassault and France can offer other things outside of the deal, like support to get Brazil a permanent place in the UN security counsil.
