PHOTO: Underwater Launch Canister For K-15 Sagarika Submarine-launched Missile

Just got this photograph of the R-Glass composite canister for the K-15 Sagarika submarine launched missile (officially, Programme B-05). It’s a four-layered thermal protected canister, presumably for India’s prospective Arihant-class SSBNs.

  1. I am following your blog for more than 1 year now, Your blog is very informative and good to read.
Please can u elaborate more on this.

  2. Hi Shiv,
While your blog is absolutely informative, are you sure you are not disclosing any confidential information ? This looks like a cell phone photo clicked at a workshop which could have been a violation of security regulations..

  3. sparx: no, this is an advance copy of a photo that will be in a forthcoming edition of DRDO's Technology Focus journal, expected to be out in a month. And it isn't a cell-phone photo.

  4. India has developed different missiles . Now it is time for developing canister , one canister for a group of missile as canisterised missiles are difficult to detect . Also iti is time for standardize the launch platform insteasd of havinf a different launch platform for each new missile developed . Also the no of associated vehicles (e.g. communication, radar , data analysis and uplinking, auxillary power)need to be reduced.

  5. I feel that the photos of subs n slbm should not be released at all. It can allow extrapolation of ranges, diameters of submarines and capabilities.
This is the reason nations do not discuss/disclose their submarines capabilities.
It is only now that SeaWolf, LA class, Vanguards have been shown on the discovery channel, that too sanitised videos.
    Just my thoughts.

  6. 2001 Sino-Russian Treaty of Friendship
the Treaty which provide China to access Russian military technology.

why? India do not have Indo-Russian Treaty of Friendship.

  8. @all those who think pictures of missiles are "sensitive" – think again. Do you think foreign intelligence agencies rely on google searches for images/data about our technology? They work through human intelligence, electronic intelligence etc to gain the information they need. Trust me when I say they know far more than the Indian public knows.

@Anon/amit 12:43 AM .. I completely agree. These are the men and women who keep the peace so that we may sleep safe at night. They deserve the best, be it food, clothing or equipment. Shiv, please highlight the lack of such items or poor quality in publications so that the country knows how such great people are treated by the low life politicians of India.

  9. "please don't post such sensitive pictures" .. I'm simply surprised at such comments. How can an average citizen be that naive? If Shiv can snap up a picture then it can't be that secretive or if it is indeed a sensitive/secretive picture and Shiv does have access to it and openly discusses it, then our military security is a big joke.
