CUT THROTTLE #4

  1. very sad indeed. it is a prime aircraft which would suit india's needs and also commonality with existant force levels.

  2. Signal something for sure!! Need 500 MMRCA — need to fight on four fronts — North and East – China; West – Pakistan; South – Sea Lanes; Far-West – Iran. India has already bailed out of the Tibet fight: need to bail back in, however that's done! Obama is probably going to shunt Hu Jintao onto a boat back to China within a week!! The whole world is going to kick China's ____ Britain, Australia, Japan, Vietnam, Phillipines … are all lining up. India can't wait for them because China is already preparing to snatch Arunachal within 10 years! Believe it or not!

  3. Yes, good riddance. We've got enough Flankers to be getting on with.
    Almost every MRCA article incorporating pilot opinions seems to hint at Gripen being the most satisfying. Add to that the fact that Rafale is logistically similar to the Mirage pretty much should narrow it down to the two, so Eurofighter's inclusion is confusing. Or has high cost become part of the acquisition parameters?

  4. Well Mig-35 doesn't fit to the current needs of IAF!..even with its supurb thrust vectoring capability, it would be overlooked due to its weakness in network centric long range capabilities!

    I think Gripen NG fits as the best choice, Eurofighter is ma fav choice, Rafael fits in best stargicaly & f-18 is the best technoligically loaded one…..

  5. My gut feel is that there will be more than 1 MMRCA selected. I guess, the Rafale will be chosen for deep penetration and naval defence capabilities and F/A-18 F for Air superiority. Gripen NG is out as we have the Tejas Mk II coming in similar lines. The Eurofighter may not be selected as its not as good as the Rafale and we have to give the Americans something…

  7. TEJAS IS NO LONGER A MIRAGE!!!.www.defpro.com/daily/details/732/?SID=e70a61c0125eee8856b19e6f98ab7867

    what the heck is a HYPER COMBAT AIRCRAF(HCA)?!

  8. If this is true, I am the happiest person, in India. This ain't the Russia who was friendly till the end of 80's.
    Now they are worst then our enemies.
    My opinion is "Cancel all deals with Russian's, select European or Israeli Companies for R&D"

  9. i agree with ASHISH. No news about mig35 losing or any other a/c for that matter. Is this inside news or just a rumour?

  10. I would go for either JAS 39 Gripen or F-16. Why F-16, simply because F-16 is a rugged fighter and has been combat worthy in so many wars world wide. A proven workhorse.

    Why Gripen?
    A. Low cost and hence can be produced in large numbers.
    B. In any air combat, it is the numerical superiority that counts. So instead of 126 EF or Rafale, 200 Gripen can give strategic advantge.
    C. Gripen was designed to take off from smaller runways and maybe perhaps the roads. In the event of runways getting destroyed, sorties can be continued from roads.
    D. Gripen manufacturers are ready to go a long way with Indian Air Force. Maybe when the Kaveri engine is operational, it can be fitted on the Gripen.
    E. LCA Mk1 has just got IOC and it is yet to get FOC. LCA MK2 is still being talked about. There is no clarity on AMCA.

    EF, Rafale and F-18 are all expensive jets. Plus the enemy has S-300 and equivalent SAMs. Neither EF nor Rafale can evade a SAM easily. And lot of expensive jets going down to S-300 will result in quicker force depletion.

    This is top secret, and it is your wish, that will come true. The LOCKHEED F-16IN SUPER VIPER WILL WIN THE MMRCA AND THAT WILL LEAD TO INDIA GETTING THE WORLDS TOP GUN THE F-22. The Hon PM had fixed this plan with the former President George W Bush.

  12. The other option is to make peace with pak…then we can have at least the west and north west secure…that will also secure the south west as well…rather than continue praying that they will simply breakup…it won't happen!!! Our ancesters used to look at these peoples just kiiling each other….that is waste but it also trains them for war and makes them tough…and it is that that continued to defeat us for centuries. Violence is in their culture and they won't break up…even IM say that the only mosques that they see grown men fight is Paks mosques. Question is at what price this peace will come? Imagine indian forces just concentrated in the north, with paks killing chinese in china…CA also turning against china, it would be a whole new ball game. but do we have the balls to make the consessions they want….kashmir?

  13. MIG-35 really good bird..
    Well proven platform in India and a nightmare for pakistani F-16s.
    only reason to take it out of the bag is the political will, coz we may end up evrything from russia since we already doing it for SU-30 MKIs..
    but if fulcrum is procured its going to be cheap so can be deployed in large nos. and infrastructure we do own already..

  14. @ Chadasingh
    i dunno about centuries..but in this century there were 3 indo pak wars on kashmir and one for Bangladesh…i dont remember any source saying india was defeated in these..(well.i have heard that some textbooks in pakistan say that)….

    Their demand for kashmir …or the so called plebiscite to represent the will of the Kashmiri people (only the ones in Indian Kashmir..from where Pakistan backed militants have already driven out one commmunity….but not the Pakistani Kashmir ..would be difficult there as good fraction of the people there have been resettled from other parts…)…there were some terms that the UN laid for it….Pakistan still chooses to ignore them..but India (which enacted laws to prevent any1 other than Kashmiri people from settling there) should hold the plebiscite anyway…..

    And i suppose we should withdraw troops from the region too before the same so that fresh batch of militants can enforce the will of the Kashmiri people during the plebiscite ….

  15. Buy 64 MIG-35;
    182 Gripen;
    75 Rafale;
    120 F/A-18 Hornets.

    Don't worry about standardization; just don't put your eggs into one basket.

    (BTW, I might as well say it here — we need 1000 150mm artillery guns!)
