‘Tejas Not Fourth Gen At Present’: IAF Chief

Air Chief Marshal PV Naik today said, “At present it is not a fourth generation aircraft. It will come up.” Earlier, when questioned about the parameters on the Tejas that the IAF was not fully satisfied with, he said, “There are several refinements required. We need full compliance, after all we have waited a long time.”

  1. Blah Blah tejas Blah..tejas..blah blah blah

At least acknowledge the hard work of our engineers today…always half glass empty..

  2. Thanks for this extraordinary news! Full digital FCS, modern radar, stealthy airframe, FADEC engine what IAF needs to become a 4th generation fighter? Tejas may need to act like submarine.

  3. I think what he meant is that BVR and some other capabilities still need testing and after FOC it would be truly 4th gen.

  4. Yeah! I know, F16 is so 3rd generation!
Yet it's in the MMRCA league because someone else certified it.

    😛
At least make a statement to say what he looks for from a 4th generation!
That statement is a snippet, need details before even pointing fingers on Air chief, got know what he was taking about, there were people on the panel there, who were excited and were calling kaveri as LCA and mig 21 was called mig 29 by a reporter and someone was saying what about Bharamos, and the Air chief said it's not a fighter.

Clear answers were certainly not coming out.

Again he kept stressing on IAF testing it and like people may say it is capable of things, I need to know it first hand and then may be I will comment, still don't see what needs to fall short of a 4th gen.

  5. Why are we jumping like our neighbor on this statement..?
LCA is neither BVR capable nor drop PGMs as of now. How come this is a Gen.4 aircraft.
BTW in my opinion ACM Naik is just being a hard nosed customer and want to keep ADA/HAL/DRDO guys on their toes..

  6. That was probably not appropriate to say at that time.Well Tejas is finally inducted and to me it has all required attributes to be considered as 4th Generation aircraft.Probably weak Engine(however it is Hornet's engine) and some testing that is still going on,made IAF chief to make such remark.
    @anonymous 1:55-Superlyk your last line.ROFL……………

  7. IT STILL DOES NOT HAVE 4 KEY ELEMENTS

    2 ARE KNOWN TO
    A> TVC ENGINE
B> RADAR JAMMING AND COUNTER JAMMING MEASURES

THE REMAINING 2 ARE STILL GETTING TESTED

  8. anon 2:04 PM, be happy with donated chinese junks. what no one wants, chinese dumps them on you pakis. don't make more fun of yourself.

  9. Shiv IAF Chief has cleared air…he said his statement was misunderstood…hip hip huree…Paki ass will be burning….DESh dhorhi media…always waiting to find negative things….

  10. National pride apart, in its present configuration the Tejas is nothing but a trainer. So lets not jump on the IAF's case, they are the professionals, they are the end users.

  11. Too bad for ACM to make such an statement on IOC.. Where are leadership qualities that forces claim to be a necessity to be an officer? is this the way he wants to lead nation towards indigenous capability (perhaps that's not his jobs but..)? Probably it is not a 4'th gen…may be thats why it is called IOC and not FOC. One needs to learn to walk before running and our scientists and engineers could have used some words that appreciated their hard work and dedication. It is not Flanker, so what they will design something better one day.

Fault finding is the easiest thing to do and creating something needs lot of courage, dedication, and perseverance and it should be appreciated.

  12. Shiv sorry on you. You being a responsible and respected journalist could have posted this poor choice of words with some clarification. Everybody knows a fighter with digital FCS, MMR, all glass cockpit and carbon composite airframe can't be less than 4th generation fighter at least technology wise. Combat capability wise yes LCA is yet to be integrated with two key fourth generation fighter requirement which are LGB and BVRAAM. These are something which was always planned as FOC target.

    Mr Anonymous @2:04 PM

You could have shown little common sense to search and read this.

Air Chief Marshal PV Naik later clarified that it was a fourth generation aircraft. He said that some systems and maneuvers have to be finalized leading to the FOC.

  13. anon 2.04 here.. im not pakistani or chinese.. who gives a shit about their painted dabbas?? let their jf 2000 or whatever other shit they have burn and bomb themselves for all i care.. infact, screw them

im indian.. just critical of RATshaker talk

  14. Shiv Aroor, please elaborate what our Air Chief Marshal PV Naik meant when he said, "At present it is not a fourth generation aircraft. It will come up."

We Indians were in an assumption that LCA Tejas was a 4th generation aircraft which will soon even become a 4.5 (4++) generation aircraft. We are very eager to know the truth about prestigies LCA Tejas……….:(

  15. The customer deserves all the rights to keep the suppliers on the toes at 60/60/24/31/12/366. More so even when the supplier is indigenous. None is better a supplier friendly than a toughest customer. This way actually IAF is ensuring the gallant success of Tejas Mk2, AMCA and PakFu.

Now Tejas is the alive and kicking baby of IAF. IAF will grow it more and more to include BVR & standoff missiles for being a real 4.5++th Gen fighter.

    Congrats to IAF and DRDO.

  16. 3rd gen? based on what standards?. But in another thought for IAF who operates/going to operate MKIs and MMRCA FGFAs. LCA might seems to be a very little boy and they expects high standards for every hardware they operate.

  17. @Anon 204 PM: RATshakers are far informative and knowledgeable person than your pakdef jokers! I've been on pakistan defense forum and to be honest that doesn't not seems to me defense to forum leave aside being a professional, well-organized informative forum to me. Only India bashing is the job you guys do very well.. 🙂

    Joy frm dhaka

  18. @Joy .. what part of IM INDIAN did you not understand??

you call call pakdef and chindef or whatever def they got all the crap you want, infact i encourage it cause i think its all shitty too. they're just india bashers who think everything is a bloody conspiracy.

not everyone who is critical of DODO and RATshakers are pakis

  19. Till date no pics of J20 flying… 🙂

Only sitting on the tarmac n growling like a mythical dragon (father of J17 aka Owlet Dragon..LOL).

  20. The ACM was being honest and his re-traction was political….he said this LCA was mig21++….this is the truth. come on have a look at the plane…the paf mirages look more mordern…look at lca's cockpit….look at the mirages cockpit….also the paf mirages are all weather…its pity iaf have to waste preciuos money buying this. i would prefer that they bought more su30s. all the lca fan boys who compared it to gripen should hopefully be feeling the affects of gravity right now.

  21. Air Chief Marshal PV Naik is right, LCA was developed as a replacement for MIG 21 and keeping in mind the issues with LCA it is better to call it MIG 21++.

This is reality to be accepted so that LCA can be further improved to really stand-up to its name as TEJAS.

How can India develop a aircraft and weapons of a current generation with very few really talented scientist 🙁

  22. So i guess LCA = Grippen is not really the case.

SAAB would be very happy with Air Chief Marshal PV Naik for clarifying this.

Hmmmm…..is the Grippen back in the race then?

    Cecx Fable & Gas

  23. LCA is a 3rd Gen plane now because it does not meet some of the basic flight requirement. It is way overweight, despite using high percentage of composite. It cannot pull more than 6G or 7G. It cannot climb in a sufficient steep Angle of Attack. It turns too slowly.

It's basically not ready but to save face it's rushed out and forced IOC on IAF, who basically calls it out as what it is, a 3rd Gen plane.

  24. Remarkable comments and good for the future of India. It tooks 25 years for creating this shit LCA and it is also not a 4Th generation fighter. Thats great news. By the time Indian politicians will decide to purchase china will launch 6th generation fighters.Till now Indians dont have warships, fighter planes with latest technology, helicopters, tanks, latest equipments for the army like the chinese and US and they dont have anything bcos of this shit PM. Till now the battleship is supposed to come from Russia. Everything is delay bcos these F****kr politicians are busy filling their pockets. Alreay half of kashmir is f****ckd by pakis and chinese and Aruncahcl is also now Chinas intergral part. By the time this F***kr PM decides about all these half of India will go to fuck**r pakis and chinese.
