No Progress On Rafale Until Inquiry Complete

Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony confirmed today that an inquiry was still on into the selection of the Rafale as L1 in the MMRCA competition (following a recent complaint by an MP), and that forward movement — at least six more stages of scrutiny and process until contract signature — would be held off until the inquiry is complete. Meanwhile, HAL seems pretty set on license building the Rafale 🙂 That’s their production vision up there I scoped at their pavillion at DefExpo 2012. More photos and stuff later tonight.

  1. Jai Ho!

For all the glorious stories of our glorious history, its hard to imagine how India could have resisted even a single invasion with what I'd assume were similarly short sighted, selfish, greedy people at the helm of affairs.

Doesn't matter if the army is fighting with wooden sticks and the airforce has only water balloons to drop from its microlights, procurement will have to make way for the drama of electoral politics and the frustrating exercise of the corrupt foaming at the mouth expressing revulsion at the hint of corruption.

Thank heavens for the tremendous incompetence of the neighbours to the west and the protection of the Himalayas to the east.

  2. With this being an election year, I bet 10 bucks that this will either be delayed until the new government forms or will be scrapped for a new bid, or a separate contract award.

  5. Whats new! Politicians putting their own interests ahead of the security of the nation.

    Disgusting to say the least.

  6. Reminds me of Deve Gowda's objections and leanings towards a Ukranian tank when India was buying T-90 tanks.

Really thinking that Mr Reddy was paid off to start a stinker ..

  7. Antony's honesty may prove costly for country's defence and security. ALl the defence deals are behind schedule and so would be the MMRCA procurement.

  8. Now delay the project, first our gov commited the mistake….and now they will wait for another few years….and later after that again to get new project it will take another few years or may be more years….til that date our IAF squadrons will come down to 10….and again the gov will state ….. that our vision to make India superpower will be completed by 2050…….I think one day ….the other countries will invade India…..and there will be no one to support India.

  9. Haha Shiv was behind the Rafale and 126 fighter planes. Do you expect this to materialise atleast by 2020? This clearly shows the poor state of India, the bureaucracy, red tapism and Ministers and croonies of all sorts who has never in their life worked on a schedule. What a predicament Shiv. I can understand your frustration.

  10. Can't believe it. The Government has absolutely no courage and no confidence in its own systems and processes. Antony and Manmohan Singh ought to step down. Pakistan and China need not prepare to fight India militarily – all they have to do is bribe some crook of a politician to ask a completely stupid or unfounded question and they can set our military preparedness back by several years. I don't know whether to laugh or to cry, I pity those poor IAF pilots and their families who are flying those old MIG 21s despite the high accident rate. These fools who run the nation's politics have no hesitation in sacrificing the lives of our young warriors, as long as they feather their own nests or cover their own backsides. Why the does not any MP ask these questions: will this decision to put the procurement on hold not jeopardize the country's military readiness? and on what basis did this Mysura Reddy fellow make this allegation?

  11. saint antony is like manmohan, hiding under the garb of honesty but incapable of doing/unwilling to do anything that will weed out corruption.

  12. never seen a bigger brotherhood or bonhomie of crooks than the UPA2. totally inept bunch, bereft of ideas and incapable of doing anything good.the mindset of these people is a throwback to the colonial days, when the many slogged to pamper a rich few.

  13. All this slow as hell procurement is the strategic legacy of the UPA government.

George Fernandes was 1 billion times the Defence Minister AK Antony is. Forget the trumped up Barak scam accusations the UPA cooked up, there has been zero evidence and the old case is virtually thrown out of court today.
