DRDO’s Strike Scenario For 3 Indian Fighter Efforts

Wanted to write about this, but I just got back to Delhi from a weekend in Bangalore, and I’m rushing off to work, so I’m putting it up anyway. It’s from a recent DRDO presentation and perhaps the first that depicts the LCA, AMCA and FGFA in an operational scenario. Comment and tell what you think this slide tells us.

  1. How nice DRDO! Spot the clangers:

    1. Indigenous AWACS without antenna!

    2. Light fighter without operational clearance!

    3. Paper plane AMCA!

    4. FGFA, How many seats do we want in it 1, 2, 3…

Oh and look at that… in the far right corner of the picture…

The Army tanks as usual are fighting against greater than 1:1 odds assisted by the lone creaking Mi-25 Hind!

  2. all the task shown in the picture can be done by a UCAV ………

let the fighter aircraft fight air to air battles .. ..

also the picture shows that our enemies do not have an flying air force .. Wat s Joke..

  3. @Wolfandman

look to the far left…building with too many windows…

omg there are planes parked openly in the airbase…

omg theres a yellow flashlight on every object…

    gimme a break will u??

  4. People, please give it a break. Don't try and read too much into the image without understanding its implications. It is just a scenario. I wish all those hopeless comments were made by the enemies of the Reich. It is good to be a critic but what you guys are doing is criticizing something without understanding the entire picture.

  5. What role will sukhoi, rafale play in that threat scenario. Forget about fgfa, amca, aura, it has been clear that our mig21's will be the frontline strike aircraft till 2040.

    Hi Shiv,

When RFPs or RFIs are issued by the Government are they reflected on any Govt / Private website as soon as they are issued .

    Would appreciate a response.

  7. where is the mig 29 in the pic?
is the AMCA only for airforce and not navy?
if the LCA is only restricted to 80-100km range then what is the need of LCA,the job can be easily done by UAV and UCAV…and on top of that the LCA role is restricted to target the objects only on ground, this job can be easily done by short range surface to surface missiles or even attack helicopters, why was LCA designed for dofight if they are restricting only to bombing missions?
the pic does not depict these planes working in tandem with the army, after all that was one of the main reasons why cold start was thought to be a flawed approach and even now this pic doesn't seem to address that flaw….

  8. Well this is all good. the Question I have is what planes do what now. Today. Always fun to look into the out years at what is suppose to be there.

  9. It envisages where, how and what they will be able to do after 2025 and onward.

Till then and at present we have to be content with replacing the FGFA with Su-30Mki, AMCA with Mirage-2000/Jaguar and LCA with various Mig's.

  10. LOL. It's funny how people rant, over a single power point slide, that it failed to answer all their questions over all the programs behind all the equipment depicted in it 🙂 Sigh!

  11. This diagram will help DRDO in Starting some more projects, that means more promotions. That is the actual aim. who is cared about defence preparedness.

  12. Hi SHIV,
Love this pic. This is how you run an organization without any substantial work. But the prob is that slides, images, artwork and other soft form of weapons do not work. LCA is a dead project now. They should use it for dropping food grain packets during flood relief operations after all the trials it had gone through. And before LCA could enter war theater we have AMCA pics which are useless to say the least.
There was a presentation in my office on INNOVATION by higher officials only to realize that even slides were copied.

    Best regards,
    NOOB

  13. 1)Funny that DRDO is making a STRIKE SCENARIO STATEMENT instead of IAF !!!

2)Where is SU-30 MKI or RAFALE s? or These will be obsolete by that time?

lastly It feels good to see that DRDO's AMCA can be configured in STEALTH STRIKE Role also !!!

  14. I believe AMCA is advanced multirole combat aircraft which will be a mix of su30, mig29, MMRCA and other planes of same category.

  15. What this slide tells me is that DRDO is one childish organization where appraisals are done based on the slides prepared by its "scientists" and day-dreamers are the top management.

    1. Childish because I have seen more professional looking presentation slides from a high school student here in the USA.

    2. Since they do not "actually develop" anything, how would appraisals be done-on the basis of slides. right? Caste, same state would also help.

3.I have referred to "scientists" in my opening statement. This is obviously to differentiate them from actual scientists, who make discoveries and figure out how stuff works.

    4. If the top management were not day-dreamers, would they dare to compare an aircraft which is being tested for 3+ years now (FGFA) by a country which has manufactured warplanes for 80+ years(Russia) to a plane which is still on paper (AMCA), whose customer requirements are yet to be frozen AND they do not learn from the past (LCA)

The cream-de-la-creme engineering talent of India comes from the IIT's, IIM's & REC's. These folks are either working in top MNC's in India and a lot of them are here in USA. Till the time, DRDO fails to recruit this talent and relies on the "reserved category" for building AMCA, this is what India will get instead of a cutting edge war plane-childish presentation slides.

    Tats

  16. AMCA is going to be a good Fifth gen fighter. My reasoning is simple- DRDO has been improving its record significantly in current years and Tejas testing is going on very smoothly (it finished all weapon tests just yesterday). There might be some delays but tell me where there aren't delays? Even the only hyperpower of current time, USA is struggling for years and years to catch up with its F-35 production goals.

  17. @Shiv Aroor: Guess with every single post of yours, you need to put a lot of disclaimers or our junta will start commenting without idea.

    @Everyone else:
    1. This depiction is from DRDO. Hence no mention of MMRCA since DRDO has nothing to do in that deal. IAF will have its own scenarios where MMRCA will surely figure along with Su30MKI and all the others.
    2. This is just a very general depiction with lots of color just to show the operational area of the 3 different projects which DRDO hopes to complete soon.
    3. As someone said that this is ignoring any air force of the enemy…LCA is providing Air support to ground troops as well as our Air Force, AMCA is taking out ground targets with its huge bombs and FGFA with its stealth and other 5th gen features is taking care of the enemy targets INCLUDING air force.
    4. On behalf of admin: This is just a depiction without much explanation. Please dont make baseless stories out of it.

    Regards,

  18. as usual the dumb minds in full display here….comments are good enough to tell their level of maturity…only good at passing comments others, and when testing time comes they start blaming everything else except their attitude….and these suckers dream of joining NASA or an successful entrepreneur..

  19. Realy , is this is happening. Instead of iaf it is now drdo who is making strategic decision. And for those who just say that commenting is easy and doing real work is out of our capability. Well we pay taxes we have the right to ask question because they are being paid for those jobs with our money so this is realy pathetic to say other that don't comment . Reliablity depends on results and drdo has realy failed in this area. Not even completed a project like hjt 36 sitara. And eating money in the name of amca , fgfa, aura. It is not bad to planning for future planing but atleast give some result that worth the money . LCA (big words) but in reality will a very very late combat aircraft. When lca will be oprational, the era will belong to fifth generation. And this is the fact that will not cange.

  20. So enemy from 601 to 799 Km is let go free or declared DMZ?

FGFA is for the chinese, and AMCA for Pakis and LCA for near border ops. How do you read this diagram? Anyone?
