Decision On 197 Light Helicopters Soon

Uncertainty over what is perhaps India’s most important helicopter acquisition effort is expected to end in the next two weeks. Wire reports today say the MoD has received a report submitted by a special technical oversight committee that had been set up to inquire into complaints of tender deviations. The apparent fear now, both for the two contenders Eurocopter and Kamov, and the Indian Army and IAF, is that if the MoD is convinced that the deviations were unfair or unacceptable, the effort could be aborted — a nightmare scenario considering that it was aborted on its first try in 2007 as well.

  1. Based on recent lockhorns between army and airforce the deal should be splitted between the 2 vendors(100+97). Let army go for kamov & airforce go for fennec or vice versa. This will make the situation calm for our defence cry babies.

  2. This tender is going to be aborted…seriously,
since no US company has participated..(just like earlier attack Helo tender…aborted twice to get US Apache in)…until some US company is brought in and wins the tender…mark my words!

Also there are no bureaucratic issues prop up,politicins try to delay,or media gets some hints of controversies/kickback issues..nothing happens for large deals/buys from US but for everything else from any other countries including historically trusted allys like Russia,Israel,France..some issues crop up and delay happens…I wonder how greedy these Indians have become and how easily these people are sold?

  3. is there any bangalore reddy(like mysoor reddy) as MP to through a spanner, its time to make some money too!!!

  4. I hope they terminate this tender and let Hal build new helicopter. Already India operates the highest number of helos in asia and they can take their time too.. its not an urgency i guess

  5. Who ever wins, should be the same for Amy and the Airforce so long as they meet the criteria for each force. This will help with training commonality, maintenance and parts logistics. No need to pacify every supplier out there if one can do the job for us. If a locally developed product can be ready in time, go for that instead.. that would be the icing on the cake.
