New Look Indian Marine Commandos

Another great picture of the Indian Navy's Marine Commandos in their slick new kit. Scoped this picture at Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma's farewell press conference today. My network colleague and friend, Gautam Datt, defence correspondent at Mail Today, recently did this piece about the new look, first revealed at the commissioning of India's new stealth frigate INS Sahyadri last month. The Navy says the new look, under tests until recently, is now officially being introduced in phases.

@Shiv Aroor

Does this new look means that the black dress and overalls of the MARCOS has been abandoned

thanks

Is there a pic of a badge identifying these guys as the MARCOS?? Don't see one here or on any the pics in you previous post. Please elaborate.

The old black nomex coveralls gave a bad ass scary look that might also play a role with psych warfare and provide good cover in dark. Hope those are still retained as covert or Behind enemy lines operational gear and the new uniform for guard duties or regular warfare uniform.

What about night vision goggles.

Hi Shiv,

Will there be procurement of LSV (like DPV), small UAVs and patrol boats for MARCOS. Does MARCOS have a SWCC equivalent of the US Navy?

Since a lot of peole who follow defence news regulary, it would be really appreciated if you could find time to document the unclassified workings of MARCOS, covering the equipment and training. A lot of documentaries are made for US Militaries, but the need of the hour is that Indians be acquainted to what we have as capabiity. Just a suggestion.

The reason I write above is that I am from Amry background and it rwaly hurts when my friends are more aware of the background of US armed services than our own. Also people were unaware of what MARCOS is untill 26/11 . There are thousands if not millions of stories that can be shared if govt declassifies them and let the public know of OUR achievements.

Regards

They still dont have bullet proof vests, gloves, gps, communication radios or night vision equipment. So what exactly is the "new look"? Just the face paint?

only the person in the black dress in the above link is a MARCOS..& that pic was taken when Barack obama was to arrive at an naval air station in mumbai..
i guess secrecy is not a reason for not putting the marcos patch..if they can put it on 1 occasion then they they can put it on others too..

Copying American looks will not make them any good.

@Anon 7:03 Its not about just looks. Its about equipments, disguise, training and most importantly willingness to spend, learn, modernise and being best.

One should question whether the camaflouge is suitable for indian or to be precise the "enemy" areas these people will work in.

regarding training and equipments, how can anyone decide that from one picture, especially of a unit whose existance wasnt known in masses untill the recent 26/11 (I never came across anyone who knew who MARCOS were untill the person was really into defense news)
