The f-35 is an overpriced flying turquey.
It can not run, it can not turn and is extremely expensive to buy and maintain.
Plus it is not as stealthy as the Americans say.
The Indian Navy would be better off buying the navalised version of the Rafale or, if money is tight, the Grippen.

At first get hold of a good aircraft carrier and then think of putting f35 or tejas or sea gripen or naval rafale.

It's a good choice to put faith, effort and pressure on LCA rather than go for F35. If LCA can't fight china you need to develop one that is capable of doing so. Otherwise you just accept defeat and pick yourself up from there. Just buying critical hardware from outside is never going to help. If we haven't learned from the past, then what are we. (It can be indigenous, privatization, etc..). Right steps need to be taken.

Holding somebody accountable for success and failure is very important.

Not sure if ever our aircraft-carriers are going to challenge Chinese Navy at China sea or waters ???? Other wise if we expect to confront PLA NAVY in Indian Ocean region ever, then we will also have IAF with Su-30 MKIs, Super Sukhois ,5th Gen FGFA,MCA,Rafale,Upgraded Mig-29s,Mirrage-2000s etc apart from Indian Navy's Mig-29K,Naval Tejas and Naval Rafale..think more than enough for PLA Navy can take 🙂

Not sure which Media Agent of Lockheed Martin wants us to buy F-35 and create a mess for Navy' Logistics with another type of Aircraft added and surely ..not for free..I guess(like Pakistan gets from US).

Why in hell did the Indian Navy ask EADS to redesign the Tejas Landing gear for carrier operations? They have no experience at all when it comes to making a carrier-borne fighter… unlike Dassault!

IN requires powerful and lethal aircraft which can take care of Indian assets. First let Vikramaditya with MIG29 loaded come. As far as future requirements gripen naval or the rafale would be the right choice. F35 is too expensive to purchase and maintiain it.

At last a real leader has emerged.
A total resuffling of HAL management must take place if they do not deliver the LCAs within reasonable time.

It is best if India goes for Naval FGFA along with Mig-29K and Naval Tejas.

It's good that Navy is considering F35B along with the C variant.

India does need a V/STOL aircraft not only for the navy, but for army and airforce also. The F35B can easily land and take off from the LPDs that India plans to acquire in the near future. LPDs are more cost effective than the larger aircraft carriers.

Besides this, these jets don't need elaborate runways and can land and take off from highways and open fields.

In case of hostilities these jets can be quickly deployed anywhere. With F35Bs in our arsenal, it will prove a strong deterrent to our adversaries to try anything too adventurous in our side of the border.

    Navy always supports indigenous programs
i think we can build a stealthier tejus navy and airforce as these are smaller, and could be made as stealthier as F35 with not big efforts

I salute the Navy Chief. Indeed, the Navy is the most indigenous-friendly arm of all the three.

Wonder why there is stoic silence in The Times of India and The Indian Express on this. Can news-space be influenced by arms middlemen too ?

And to the hawkers of Russian, American and Israeli wares above: No amount of canvassing is going to stop the N-Tejas from flying off Indian Aircraft Carriers !

Those who are commenting in favor of Naval Tejas, MIG 29 and F 35 do not have any idea of ship or aircraft. These arm-chair commentators never touched a screw driver by their own hand but never forget to comments on military issues. If we have three types of plane on a aircraft carrier then it will be a logistical and maintenance nightmare. We have to keep three sets of spares and we have to train our technicians on three types of planes. (On a aircraft carrier we can not keep too many technicians due to shortage of cabins.) Which is simply impossible.

Shri. Parthasarathi, nobody (not even the Naval Chief) has suggested that Navy will opt for ALL the 3 i.e. N-Tejas, F-35 and the fictitious Naval Rafale.

It is only N-Tejas all the WAY !!

    #armchair disclaimer!
In the long run India is not strengthened by the actual systems but by actual capability in totality – If the Tejas is encouraged it may still be an aeromodelling project in front of an Su-33 – but it will be also our Awacs and Derbys – and indeed data shared by a MiG29K upgraded to Zhuk AESA and sea-fired Brahmos missiles against which there is no current defense – helping equalise the score with a Chinese Aircraft carrier group in the Indian Ocean. The Tejas is important in what it will teach us – so one day we have our own Gen.5 AMCA flying off our carriers
