‘Combat-proven’ Iron Dome At Aero India 2013

Israeli missile-maker Rafael will display at Aero India 2013, for the first time, it’s ‘game changer’, the Iron Dome active defence system against short-range artillery rockets, most notably deployed during the November 2011 hostilities between Israel and Palestine. The Iron Dome will be part of an elaborate outside display of the full portfolio of the company’s air and missile defence systems. (Of course, Rafael is unlikely to ever live down this timelessly ridiculous PR video they released for the Indian market at the 2009 show).
The company’s outer display will also include David’s Sling multi-platform interceptor system, the SpyDer SR/MR and the entire Spike family of tactical guided missiles.

  1. Screw the Iron Dome, it's more expensive than the targets it destroys.
Instead, work on the Igla(Sa-18), better Sa-24 (redesigned). Replace the IR seeker with a Radio/Radar seeker. The fuse is good enough.
Use the Rajendra radar system or something similar to guide the missiles to the targets.
    Done. SIMPLE & EASY.

  2. It takes two… to tango… well they said in bollywood style… then all of ballywood… is timelessly ridiculuos… bullshit… if you can accepted the BS… bollywood… then accept this also…

  3. Israelis is even bringing Hermes 900 to Aero India ….. !!

And i support If India buy or develop system like Iron Dome at least to counter The Hatf IX, named Nasr …. 😉

  4. very effective but if you'll watch the rocket which is fired in the pic it is much similar to BARAK 8 missile which is a co-development of India and Israel. DRDO has given the two pulse motors and if it can develop the effective seeker like ASTRA air-air missile then no need to buy this missile.we can do it in our home with minimum cost.

  8. What India needs is to check infiltration across the LOC on the westeren border. BSF has failed repeatedly to check the menace which is creating problems in the kashmir valley. Indo-Israeli joint venture can find solution to this problem.

  11. @Ashman 7:30 am well IGLA is damn short of range it's just got 7.5KM,for an interceptor you cannot rely on the range of 7.5KM at that point hostile rockets or missiles will reach you & interception may fail.Yes i agree with the rajendra RADAR can be integrated with the interceptor.

If the cost of purchasing the IRON DOME is ASTRONOMICAL when compared to developing India's own Air Defense system then DRDO should develop it's own ADS.

  12. Indian version of IRON DOME could be a few modifications to Shaurya like a single stage solid rocket motor,INS for navigation with RF seekers integration with Rajendra radar.Well at this point it's got Hypersonic speed, better range & high accuracy of interception on Kinetic kill mechanism.

But still IRON DOME is combat proven it has achieved over 400 kinetic kills, well if the cost of procuring IRON DOME is more than developing an indigenous Air defense system,India should rather look into it's own version of IRON DOME.

  13. WTF!!! Dinga Dinga Dee! These a-holes are so racist that they thought by making a bollywood style ad, they can sell missiles! Looks like some bureacrats and politicians saw the ad and liked it and bought a boatload of missiles from Rafael!

  14. The Iron Dome is basically an extended range SHORAD. For all intentions and purposes, the only use of this system is to intercept and destroy short range rockets & artillery shells (as per their documentation).

Interception of long range & cruise missiles is the forte of the HIMAD/THAAD. Counter attacking of the artillery shells is the solemn duty of the artillery attached to the Indian WLR or AN/TPQ-37 radar. Both these sets (duties) are tangential especially for INDIA; We do not live in a claustrophobic environment like Israel. Now that you've realized that Water & Oil don't mix for INDIA, the question is what defence does INDIA have to protect itself from short range rockets & artillery shells? None. What lessons can we learn from Afganistan, Iraq? SHORAD consisting of guns & short range missiles can effectively thwart an aerial assault.

Summing it all up, we need an effective defence from rocket, mortar & artillery. we need something to locally protect our assets. We need a financially sustainable solution; we don't want a million dollar missile to kill a 1000 dollar dumb bomb. We know that artillery & mortar will not be fired from ranges beyond 30 km, so why bother with missile ranges beyond that.

The SA-24 can be used as is or modified for increased range. The light weight will not make it an integration nightmare. The low cost will entail increased usage. Fitting an AAM IR or pasive radar seeker should also not be a problem. The SA-24's low smoke exhaust should make the system difficult to locate. 7 km should be a good enough distance to intercept incoming targets as we expect the damaged projectile will not explode or may be diverted from its original course.

STOP THINKING GRANDIOSE AND DON'T LOOSE SIGHT OF THE OBJECTIVE.

  15. "we don't want a million dollar missile to kill a 1000 dollar dumb bomb."

whole batallion cost 1million… not on missile.
Second its not the "1000 dollar dumb bomb" what is the target. The target is the asset u protect, and a C&C center not only worth much more, it also cruical for the enemy to destroy.

DON'T LOOSE SIGHT OF THE OBJECTIVE! 😉
