Indian Parliamentary Committee To Probe AgustaWestland Deal

A 30-member joint committee comprising members of India’s two houses of Parliament will now inquire into the AgustaWestland AW101 VVIP helicopter deal that the Indian government signed in February 2010. India suspended payment on the €556-million recently following allegations of illegal pay-offs to middlemen both in India and in Europe.
The Indian MoD, incidentally, has also rejected the official response by AgustaWestland on Feb 20 which claimed that the company had complied with all rules. The MoD is expected to send AgustaWestland a follow-up questionaire with a list of specific questions on its relationship with middlemen named in the Italian investigations so far.
AgustaWestland delivered three AW101 helicopters to the Indian Air Force in December, and has said in its letter that it expects to be paid “in a timely manner” for the remaining deliveries — a statement the Indian MoD appears to have scoffed at for now. Updates soon.

  1. Now they will waste time & public funds with this JPC and then cover up the scandal. Why do you need 30 MPs investigating this? One would think a small but competent investigating team would be enough.

  2. .
How does these things keep happening again and again and again ???
    .
… unless it has become a part of the national trait and widely accepted …
    .

  3. as AW showed promptness… in paying all the bribe money… they expect the same… from bribe takers… and their government… and its air marshals…

  4. So we now will have some of the most corrupt folks in the world look into an allegation of corruption in a purchase of an article that is for their use. Am I missing something?

  5. Nothing is going to happen. JPC is formed to throw it in dustbin. All the 30 members will get the loot money cutting across party lines. End of story.
    Next scam please

  6. It happens because there is never any fear or consequences. No politician ever go lengthy jail sentences for their involvement in any scam. We are only good at making a lot of noise when stuff happens but after the dust settles down we all move on. And the criminals simply walk away. There is never any fear of consequences so keep repeating this cycle. For once we need to make an example out of our politicians just to scare the crap out of them. They may think twice before accepting kickbacks.
