Sounds as though one of the bombs exploded just after it was released. In addition to giving the pilots an award for bravery I'd have to ask some hard questions about why IAF pilots are flying with defective bombs. A smaller, weaker plane would have gone to pieces – they were lucky they were flying the one plane strong enough to withstand it all.

    Incredible account. Wow!

I hope this nonsense about out pilots not being "well trained" will now cease. This is perhaps the most incredible story of survival in modern fighter aviation.

Agree with people who've commented earlier. IAF has to answer questions about why its bombs are going off on aircraft. Like we didn't have enough problems already.

The most important question – why did this happen in the first place was not answered.

He would never have needed to risk his life, then exhibit "exceptional courage and presence of mind in the face of potentially catastrophic and life threatening situation" if somebody else had done their job properly and his wind didn't explode!

It is a bit absurd to first endanger somebody's life and put them in a life and death situation and then give them a medal for surviving!

Ten years ago, W/C Ravi Khanna was killed over Pokhran when a bomb exploded under his wing. I can't believe this shit is still going on.

The IAF has lost another aircraft (jaguar) and a pilot due to the same reason a few years ago. HAL/DRDO/BDL have to be held accountable for this incident.

Even the Jaguar flown by Pilot Kevin Serrao blew up over the Thar desert. Defective bombs may not be the reason. More likely the bomb release racks made by our own HAL.
