Official Updated LCA Tejas Mk.2 Schematics, First Flight Target 2017

As you may have noticed, ADA has managed to get the engine wrong in this slide! It’s the F414-GE-INS6, not the GE-F404-IN20. The latter powers the Mk.1. These slides, and the one in the next post fresh off the ADA website.

  1. Let us be thankful that they haven't put the pic of Mirage or Gripen calling it LCA.

    For making this Crappy stuff HAL needed this long!

    its just an elongated LCA with some claims.

    is there any increase in external payload?
    is there any increase in combat radius?
    will there be any reduction in take off and landing distance?

    If so, what are the new numbers?

    Seems like they are going with the old engine itself, forget F414.

  2. so does the mk2 has frameless canopy, or same conventional one. plus why don't they change the elliptical intake to rectangular one,
    just like boeing did on super hornet

    no problem with airflow and will look better.

The mistake in the Brochure points to a symptom of the disease: This brochure must have passed up several stages of approval before being finally approved for printing.Yet there was no one who cared. Every one was too busy with some "other " thing because what was if front of them was not interesting enough!
    ADA boasts of introducing CATIA to India. Great! Well done!
    One of the features of the CATIA is you can find the exact weight of the component to a reasonable degree of accuracy. Yet the "so and so's" at ADA got the weight of the aircraft 1300 kilos over weight. Again because no one cared!

  5. It's not just engine and payload that are wrong.

    Just check the weights given for the Mk1 at the ADA website, and compare with the weights given for the mk2 :

    TO-clean : 9,800 kg (Mk2) vs 9,800 kg (Mk1)

    Empty : 6,560 kg (Mk2) vs 6,560 kg (Mk1)

    External Stores : 3,500 kg (Mk2) vs 3,500 kg (Mk1)

    Yet another non-event if the Tejas history…

    Very sad indeed…

  6. 1st flight of LCA MK1 was in 2001. IOC-2 was achieved on December 23rd, 2014 ; a whopping 13 years for IOC to complete; really hopeless state of affairs by ADA scientists. But, that was becoz HAL was not in-charge of this project and ADA scientists got too lazy and scared to lift the flight envelope for FOC stage of testing. Now HAL is completely in-charge of executing this project with consultancy from ADA designers & Boeing or BAE on-boarded as well. My advice to HAL for MK2 testing is – complete IOC in 1 year only!! Then spend next 5 years together with IAF's top gun fighter pilots for FOC and also to improve the Fight Envelope "dog-house" graphs for the final end-user version of LCA MK2 – for the IAF to deploy at least 500 aircrafts next! GTRE needs to really kick-butt involve EuroJet and develop a TVC nozzle engine with better specs than EJ200 or the F414-GE-INS6 one!

  7. Cannot be done at all – IAF will be really lucky to get LCA MK1 in serial line production by 2016! MK2 is basically almost a new design and so, the whole life cycle of testing FBW on iron-bird and high-speed taxi trials needs to be completed; before the 1st test-flight of MK2. After that, it still requires IOC and then the final IAF's FOC to complete fully; before HAL starts serial production of same – My most conservative time-frame for MK2 serial production by HAL is 2023! But, as per Murphy's laws of engineering, it could also get delayed upto 2030 and beyond also! So, my BEST possible scenario for the Modi Govt. is to sign the Rafale deal for 350 aircrafts total; and let HAL take it's time to come up with a SUPERB MK2 design with technologies borrowed off the Rafale's cockpit….

Countries like Iran started making stealth fighters and HAL is still hanging on unstable delta design..I personally think HAL team is unknown about the technological advances going in global defence aeronautical industries..i suggest they should start wathching Discovery Science channel than making such unproductive design and wasting country's resources…JAI HIND

  9. LCA Tejas Mark-2 has an upgraded Engine, Avionics, better flight envelope in range of F16 Block 60. This aircraft will have required Omni role to perform both Air-Air & Air-Ground.

    Airframe will have composite up to 75? less frontal RCS which means aircraft will be difficult to detect in Air to Air.

  10. For AMCA & Tejas MK2, MK3 fighters a commonality of engines is a dire-tatamount requirement, in order to cut overall projects costs well into the future- 2030's!! Two different engines from two different manufacturers is just wasting of funds for production and TCO's of these engines. Also, TVC nozzle is a MUST-requirement, at least for the future AMCA & MK3 Tejas versions! Sincerely hope that HAL ADA teams takes these factors into serious consideration, when they finally decide on what engines to go in for MK2 in the next year or so. Same manufacturer of engine for MK2 MUST provide TVC nozzles for future engine tranches.

  11. Just as I had predicted earlier-on, serial line production for MK1 will start only in 2016- thanks to delays of IFR probe and quartz nose-cone deliveries by Cobham-UK! I really fear for MK2 timelines since, ADA-HAL have still not selected any foreign consultant to complete the "Final Design Critical Review Phase". Dassault is the OBVIOUS best consultant for this phase and MUST be onboarded quickly soon, in order to complete this review fast! It appears that ADA-HAL might have to settle for the EJ200 Tranche3 engines with TVC, for the AMCA-ALCA projects now. GE is not ready for ToT and even setting up of facilities in India? ADA-HAL could also go one step further and up their ante, by designing an MCA twin-engined 4.5 Gen fighter- based on Saturn Type 30 engines [FGFA T-50 latest ver. engines!]. This would be one helluva kick-ass fighter-bomber; since combined wet thrust projected for Type30 engines is almost 185KN!! If this works out great then it is better to keep same Type30 engine for even AMCA-ALCA projects I feel!

  12. right now IAF lacks 4g+ fighters. Defense minister must do something either he should purchase 100s F/A-18, 200 F16 or Gripen and 200 Tejas mk1, or develop AMCA or Tejas mk2 asap. For army 40-80 AC-130H spectre gunships, indigenous advance Dhruv copters, LCH mk2. For navy 20-30 of kolkata-class destroyers, 20 Admiral gorshkov-class/50 shivalik-class frigates, 30-50 np-attack submarines and 3/4aircraft carrier.
