* FLASH * Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee meets PM over 6thPC

Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta has met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and handed over a formal signed document about the Committee’s core concerns and reservations about the 6th Pay Commission. Admiral Mehta met the PM late in the evening on Wednesday to brief him about his recent visit to Japan. He used the opportunity hand over the letter with the forces’ core concerns about the 6th Pay Commission, and also briefly conveyed to the PM the general sense of unrest in the ranks — especially the officer cadre — over the final decisions.

  1. Good to know but one hopes that by now the Services should learn that bulky presentations and large staffs do not get you what one needs.

If the Services presentation to the 6th CPC had just said that the relativities between Civilian and Military should be based on the length of service, should also include ‘x’ % as MSP and hardships allowances based on actual assignment as opposed to all, the situation would have been better. In such a scenario, some like desk navigators, flyers etc. may have lost but the services would have gained.

But to protect a few, some would even suggest senior ranks, the well being of the needy have been sacrificed.

One optimistically hopes that the Services have learnt their lesson though the track record shows something else.

  2. Never heard of such eagerness from top brass of armed forces when national security is under threat or jawans lack adequate equipment…
