  2. Got a mail worth sharing.
    (Author not known)
    A SALUTE TO THE BRAVEHEART.
SANDEEP,YOU HAVE MADE ALL OF US PROUD.

    1/2 boy 1/2 man

The average age of the military man is 19 years.

He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father’s, but he has never collected unemployment either.
He’s a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip -hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.
He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.

He digs foxholes and latrines and can

apply first aid like a professional.

He can march until he is told to stop,

or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity.

    He is self-sufficient.

He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.

He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.

If you’re thirsty, he’ll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He’ll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands.

He can save your life – or take it, because that is his job.

He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all.

He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed.

He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to ’square-away’ those
around him who haven’t bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking.

In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy.

He is the Fighting Man that has kept this country free

He has asked nothing in return, except

    our friendship and understanding..

Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.

And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.

As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot. . ..

A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

Prayer wheel for our military… please don’t break it Please send this on after a short prayer.

    Prayer Wheel

‘Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us.

Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.’

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our ground troops , sailors , and airmen , in all frontiers

    There is nothing attached…

    This can be very powerful…

Of all the gifts you could give a Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman, Marine, or Airman, prayer is the very best one.

  3. Rest in peace, Major.

Max Pereira on TimesNow downplaying Major Unni and Hav. Gajendra Singh as “On deputation to a police organisation”, and demanding higher pay for POLICE OFFICERS!

    Shocking.

The entire terror in Mumbai has been dismantled by the army and navy and Air Force.

Special Action Group of the NSG is manned and officered entirely by the army.

    Army troops conducted ops.

    MARCOS were first responders.

Two armymen Major Unni and Hav. Singh have lost their lives.

And the IPS wants to take the credit and award its officers higher ranks?

I hope the media will take them to task!

  4. DOES THIS COUNTRY DESERVE THE MILITARY IT HAS.SANDY AS BROTHERS IN UNIFORM WE HOPE YOUR SACRIFICE DOES NOT GO IN VAIN – A SALUTE TO YOU- INDIAN ARMY IS PROUD OF YOU THE NATION HAS TO PROVE WHETHER IT DOES ENOUGH TO BE PROUD OF YOU.

  5. A final salute to my brave coursemate from NDA who has left in his trail a legacy unmatched.Unni we love you and we are proud of you.

  6. *** UPDATE Nitin Gokhale of NDTV Reports ***

Nitin Gokhale, Defence Correspondent NDTV has reported that:

“Armed forces officers who came on TV were later told to shut up, by the highest quarters of government, they were told you cannot hog all the limelight, it is a NSG operation, forgetting completely that the special action group is comprised entirely of Army personnel”.

Sometime yesterday, all reporting which till then had spoken of the MARCOS contribution, of the Armys arrival, has stopped talking about them at all.

It is now absolutely clearly evident that the bureaucrats are scared as hell that this popular suport for the armed forces will translate into a discussion of the outrageous injustice done to them at the pay commission level. It is also clear that the bad press that the military has been getting is originating from the bureaucracy.

Shekhar Dupatta has apparently already done a hit piece on Admiral Bedi, at the behest of the bureaucracy, for speaking on the op. Noone said anything to that oaf Maharashtra DG, AN Rai, who actually damaged the ops with his incompetent and nonsensical commentary.

  7. Shiv, along with Major Unnikrishnan, 17 other brave soldiers and policemen died in this war. A comment/photograph for each one of them would be appreciated.

  8. SALUTATION TO THE OFFICER FOR UPHOLDING THE HIGHEST ETHOS OF THE ARMED FORCES. Leading from the front and his concern for the injured buddy only glorifies the unimpeachable character of such a fine breed of officers who bring pride to the armed forces. Honestly , as the armed forces ,for sure battle the deteriorating standards in terms of quality intake and mutation of value system , such exemplary heroics should keep us all focussed , towards our prime duty. Long live the bravery of Maj Unnikrishnan and armed forces as a whole.

  9. Sandeep You made the supreme sacrifice for the people of this country. May your soul rest in peace!!! You valiantly fought to protect your subordinates and have kept up the oath you took while passing out to protect this country. We’re all proud of you.

  10. We salute you Major for the highest sacrifice… India is surviving beacuse of brave sons like you… May the god give courage and strength to your bereaved family..

Few things which come to my mind…

Where is Raj Thakre?? Why did he allow non marathi NSG commandos to come to mumbai. MNS should have fought the terrorists.

These politicians are the biggest enemies, even bigger than the terrorists.

No poliician dies in terrorist attacks. DO they have prior information???

All terrorist attacks were well planned and execution was brilliant except attack on parliament?? DOes it mean that it was a pre planned skit??

By the way Shivraj Patil disclosed on TV channels that 200 NSG commandos are being sent to Mumbai. Commando operation is supposed to have a surprise element. These TV channels are providing advance information to terrorists about the actions of security agencies… No sense of responsibilty…Actually we do not need terrorits we have many enemies within…

  11. I hope this answers all the cynics in south block who have doubts against giving a pay hike to our armed forces.

They are the heart of this country they should not be deprived of anything because they give their life for the sake of country.

Crickters get crores for winning a t20 cup.i just we had someone like george fernandes back in delhi so that our armed forces get what they deserve.

I just want to tell his family we are proud of you that u had a son who was so brave and selfless in his duty towards the nation.

I hope people vote out this congress govt they have shown their inept and callous attitude in dealing with terrorism.gone are the days when we had leaders like indira gandhi.

  12. The loss of a brave Army Maj is a loss for the nation.. When will the leadership get up and take notice of the realities of our time. ‘Evolve or Perish’ said Darwin…We better evolve in our leadership or lose it all. It happened when the British came to India, all the wars we fought and now in the face of terrorism. We were let down by weak leadership then… and the story has’nt changed. The nation will therefore pay for it with the loss of its last line of defence.

  13. A tragic loss. Our condolences to the bereaved family. What will India do wihtout such heros. May your soul rest in peace . You will be a source of inspiration to the philistine comfort loving youngsters of our country.

  14. A Brave soldier who will be remembered in our hearts. Cant help but feel – could this gallant soldier’s death have been prevented?

Did he the best weapons? If he was trapped – what could have been the recourse?

    We will never know.

With a lump in our throat and the “burn” of helpless frustration in our hearts – we bid our brave brother goodbye.

Our feelings are for for his family – You are not alone.

    Jai Hind

  15. He didn’t lose his life to terrorists, he lost his life to Indian politicians.

More will in future because politicians refuse to attack the source of the problem, but rather prefer to dress up the wounds.

Salute to him nad others who made the supreme sacrifice.

  16. I SALUTE THE BRAVE SON OF INDIA AND MY COURSEMATE.

INDIAN ARMY’S SISTER WING “SPECIAL ACTION GROUP” WHICH IS A PURE ARMY ORGANISATION WORKING UNDER HOME MINISTRY DID A GR8 JOB AND HAS MADE ALL MEN IN UNIFORM FEEL PROUD.

MAJ SANDEEP U R AMAR IN OUR HEARTS

    JAI HIND

  17. Sandeep Unnikrishnan, we used call him “Unni” affectionately, was a great guy. Unni and I were classmates at school. Always an altruist, he was one of the most kind and compassionate people I’ve known. He laid down his life helping “India”.
    Rest in peace my friend!
You will always be our hero
    Deepa

  18. I had tears in my eyes feeling the pain of your near and dear. The pain felt be me was even more sharper as i know this country does not deserve soilders like us. not withstanding the back stabbing by the babus, simple yet great guys like you are ready to put down their lives in the line of duty. you were so young, and so much was left for you in life.

May your sole rest in peace.

    Your admirer

  19. I couldn’t bear to see his mother talking to him with tears in her eyes while he was resting in peace in the coffin. One of the most hear wrenching scenes that I have ever seen in my life.

It is the duty of Mumbaikar and Indians from here on to never forget this and start demanding answers to some tough questions from our political leadership. We cannot take this in our stride and forget it. This is for life long, someone has to pay for this. And it can’t be just Mumbaikars anymore.

  20. Dear Braveheart,
I Salute you for your sacrifice ,for the sake of this thankless nation.May god bless your soul and help your parents in this hour of sorrow
    Bindu

  21. Well done, braveheart. You have done us proud…we shall always cherish your sacrifice for the nation. The nation could do with more of your tribe. We salute you…sleep well,Sandy, for you have done your job bloody well…RIP.

  22. As a tribute to the fallen hero and as one of them I want to just ask why is our national flag at half mast only at The Taj why not all over the country cant we have national mourning for so many dead or its only the one of the 525 idiots if dead deserve it are we less indian than them or govt of the people for the people and by the people has forgotten the very people who are the base and the cause of it being there a food for thought for all us Indians

  23. All Hail brave son of motherland

As someone whose family has been attached to defense forces for last three generations, I understand the pain family would be going through. My siblings who work for 2 of the arms – Army and Airforce (one was involved in action and we only came to know when we saw his clip on TV) I feel very indebted.Sandeep my brother , you make me walk tall with head held high. I will continue to do my bit in the manners I am capable of.

    In deep gratitude

    Chandrabhan

  24. SHIV HAS BEEN THREATENED BY SOMEONE AND ADVISED TO CHANGE HIS STANCE TOWARDS ARMED FORCES,THATS WHY THIS SILENCE.
TRYING TO FIND OUT THE SOURCE OF THREAT AND SHALL POST AS AND WHEN KNOWN.

  25. From Now onwards, I am going to use a different footnote in all my communication. This will continue to remind me of the warrior culture of this land which these Pseudo-secularists, Commie infested, Slaves of Anglo -saxon Aryan Invasion, Land of peace, ruled by foreigners & Pluralism theories rotten pigs have been teaching/professing for years.
The only panacea is breaking up of TSP. This anamoly we owe to our Indic civilsation and no longer young men like Unni will have to make that supreme sacrifice .

    AKHAND BHARAT PRACHAND BHARAT

  26. RIP Maj Sandeep, Your sacrifice will always be special for the Army. The nation can see a fauji does not baulk at making the supreme sacrifice, no matter what…

  27. WE HAVE AN SOB CM WHO HAS THE AUDACITY TO INSULT MAY SANDEEP. THE NSG SHOULD WITHDRAW THEIR SECURITY TO THE JOKER FOR THE INSULT OF ONE OF THEIR COMRADES. THE CM SHOULD KNOW THAT IF HE HAD NOT FOOLED THE PEOPLE OF KERALA INTO VOTING FOR HIM NOT EVEN A DOG WOULD HAVE LET HIM ON THE STREETS.
THESE ARE THE CLOWNS WHO RULE.
THE PEOPLE OF KERALA SHOULD DEMAND HIS RESIGNATION. AT THE DROP OF A HAT THEY DECLARE A STATE BAND. THIS IS A VALID REASON TO DECLARE A BAND TILL THE CLOWN IS NOT DISMISSED FROM POLITICS.

  28. Shiv,
Please postupload photograph of HEROS AND SON OF THIS SOIL from Police, Army, RAF and NSG along with their heroic action details…in this thread who Sacrificed their life for people of this country (including GREEDY,EGOISTIC AND CORRUPT POLITICIANS AND BUROCRATS and their family members).

Please Shiv do this small favor to us and our nation.

Let this be one single place where we will have our heroes and ordinary people like us, connected together for ever ..for ever.

    Thanks & Regards,

  29. Some info about the NSG Ops in Mumbai

    Dear Friends,

There are speculations going on about the recent operations in Mumbai…You would be wondering as to who were the men who conducted the operations….Major part of the operations were executed by the ARMY WING of the NSG, the Special Action Group (The Police personnel in NSG do only the VIP protection and the desk jobs)…..All those who physically took part in killing of the terrorists belong to the Armed Forces ie; the Indian Army officers and men from the NSG along with some units of Indian Army from Bombay, helicopters from the Indian Air Force and the commandoes from Indian Navy. The police and other paramilitary forces gave support by helping the Army and Navy personnel to cordon off the area and by controlling the crowd

Please put doubts if any in any one’s mind to rest by passing this message on.

So if there are any criticisms for botching up the operations it’s us u can blame too.

NB Correct me if I am wrong.

  31. My heartfelt condolences to the family of this hero and to the other heroes of the NSG and the police.

There are times when India has failed you, but you have never failed her.

  32. Achutanandan is a bloody commie mongrel who fooled the people of Kerala to vote for him and his party candidates.
With his ungentlemanly outburst at Major Sandeep’s funeral he has shown what the communists stand for. They do not respect anybody except themselves and their masters in Beijing.
High time the Keralites throw out these scums and dirty mutts from governing Kerala.
It is a disgrace to have such an Chief Minister. Show him and his communist party the EXIT in the next elections.

  33. Major Unnikrishnan AND Havildar Yadav both died fighting the Mumbai terrorists. Why is there no tribute to Yadav? He also gave his life for the nation?
