  1. shiv, your blog is better than any news agency in the country. you give us photos and write-ups on the fly while you juggle a full time job as a tv reporter. it just struck me today. just wanted to express my appreciation, and i am sure a lot of other readers would agree with me. for a personal blog, you are sure doing a highly professional and commendable job. i hope to see you going to greater and greater heights. and thank you for the great job you do every day.

  2. most of IAF & Russian aircraft noses are painted black maybe to control glare from the sun but Americans paint the nose with the same colour as the rest of the plane…
you can hardly see an american plane with black nose.
somebody please throw some light on it

It looks like 'wings'…probably means that these guys are parachute certified….Garuds do jump from planes so it makes sense.

    Just my guess.

  4. The 'parachute' wings are on the Right breast over the name tab. These are worn by other para qualified IAF personnel on the right shoulder. The Golden wings on the left breast are the new "Garud" special forces badges. These are only worn by IAF Garud Special Forces. Please note that the para wings and special forces wings are different. Also the PJI of the IAF wear a different wing, similar to IAF Navigators's wings. hope this helps!!! cheers!!!

  5. Concerning the black on the nose, it's only because now many countries now how to make special paints in various colors to cover noses made in fiberglass or composite. In the past, this special paint only came in a very limited number of colors.

This blog, truly, is a really really good work. Thanks Shiv.
