  1. Hi, such a distasteful disfuguration of a national diety like Lord Shiva is nothing short of a slap on our collective faces. But anyways, it shows that we/our nation has lost the trust and respect of the Ecuadorians. We must do everything from our end to make amends at the earliest.

  2. they have no right to disrespect our gods. ecuadorians should be grateful to india, that they have one of the finest helicopters in the world, for cheap. what happens if we disfigure their so called only god ???

  3. Oh please, i think it's funny! People need to stop this "don't disrespect my religion" nonsense. How is my belief affected by someone else's actions? Am I supposed to lose my sense of humour when it comes to my beliefs? And more importantly do you think God is sitting around getting upset by such things?

  4. it seems to me the handiwork of the pakistani embassy in ecuador.

only pakistanis can make such religios insults against india

this is a slur & somebody should file a case in the ecuadorian high court for inciting religious profainity

  5. They must first choose capable people to fly their military aircraft. No wonder they remain a backward nation.

    With regards,
    Pratik Sawerdekar

  6. who says the dhruv is one of the finest copters in the world? turn it a bit sharply and it prangs into the ground.

    buy a blackhawk – don't die unnecessary.

  7. It's an insult to the nation as a whole. How dare they do this?

It's stupid to see that even small nations don't respect us.

  8. Relax guys! You don't belong to the minorities and cannot go declaring fatwas SO this Eytie Govt. ain't coming to your rescue

  9. This just shows what they are up to. Thy don't have any respect for India, they don't have any respect for our great culture. Even country Pakistan never did that.

This is beyond the Dhruv, now they attacking India.

Enough is enough. GoI should note all these and should 'appropriate' measures to destroy these propaganda.

  10. these r just emotional outburst from equadorian….if u buy a helicopter for millions (though cheaper than other) and it crashes within two months then anybody can be annoyed……we should handle the whole incident properly…we have no cultural understanding between india and equador…take it sportingly

  11. Eh? Since when did we start behaving like the Pakis and labelling cartoons about our gods an insult to "our religion"?

Get a sense of humour, folks!

And what is this nonsense about how this is an insult to a "national diety" and "the nation as a whole"? Since when did India lose its secular credentials to become a Hindu nation? Were the Danish cartoons also an insult to "the nation as a whole"?

That said, I do fail to see the humour in this. So they've given an Indian god (Shiv? Ganesh?) a head that looks like the Dhruv. What's so funny about that?

  12. kya ho gaya bhai log? is yer religion so weak tht it gets hurt by a simple cartoon. We are hindus & as the followers of the only democratic religion in the world we shud take such expressions in a lighter vein. Get some sense of humor guys. It is a cartoon & let it be it. Dont act like some "hindu taliban/mullah".
Don't we ourselves make jokes of our gods? so wt if some frustoo ecuadorian made a cartoon depicting Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is too big to be insulted by a mere cartoon.

  13. ahh cmon guys learn to be tolerant…just laugh it out..have a good sense of humour man..being a hindu,i thought this was funny…

  14. Sorry, this is not about Lord Shiva or Hinduism or religion. It is just the image foreigners have of India as the land of snake charmers and gods with multiple hands and heads. I am surprised they have not included elephants or a sadhu doing the rope trick.

India has simply not yet acquired the reputation of being a producer of modern high tech machines, despite all the talk in the media and these crashes have certainly not helped.

No point getting religious-righteous about this. Just goes to show that we have a very long way to go.

    Regards

  15. what's all this "i am insulted" nonsense??? start behaving like adults rather than looking for evidences that you honour has been tarnished.
    shame on such whiners.
for those casting slurs on ecuador's backward credentials, well india aint that much better – trillion dollar economy or not LOL. don't get taken in by india shining nonsense. being a decent indian means being aware of your weaknesses too. dont get delusional.
as for those saying its pak propaganda, go see a shrink.
you guys astound me no ends.

  16. Please! Why do you guys think this is even remotely insulting to our religion? Change the way you look at things, people… I'm an India, I'm a Hindu, I don't see anything wrong in the way the pic is depicted. In fact, I think it's rather funny!

  17. when danish news paper published cartoons of a religion, they created a uproar. why shouldn't we ?.they weren't talking about humour ! aren't they ? humour is humour. disrespect is disrespect.didn't the Ecuadorians got any other cartoon figure to potray india ? now we were talking…

  18. uuuhmmm srry but could u plz also post the caption of this cartoon……… i am unable to get the massage…………

  19. to anon@1:44
what on earth are you babbling? just coz a certain group found the danish cartoon offensive, you want to also feel insulted? and i would presume that if your neighbour jumped from the roof, you would do the same? goodness me, such cerebrally challenged people!

  20. Its not just anything about Lord Shiva or Hindu religion! They are doing this just after Dhruv crash not before. They are attacking India through most sensitive way.

There is no problem in making cartoons of our Gods, Indians know that. But the most 'intellectual' will understand that this time Ecuador newspaper did it for insult.

  21. Shiv,

first off – kudos to your excellent reporting on the Ecuador Dhruv crash issue.

Reading through the 25 or so comments here, there are people who feel insulted and people who feel this isn't anything to get our collective knickers in a twist.

As an Indian, I did feel a bit angry on seeing the cartoon, but then I also feel that if we are to become a world player, we need to take such things in our stride.

What I, and am sure many of your regular readers too, would like to know is what is your take on this issue?

    Thanks
    – Raghava

  22. It is true, if you operate a HAL product you need god's help. HAL 'quality' is well known to IAF, now poor Ecuadorians are discovering it too.

They can only retort back with such cartoons. I feel sorry for them, and also IAF.

  23. This is sad. Just because a chopper crashed, who can they take on our God? I blame MoD and HAL looters for the delay in speaking out to Media. HAd this been addressed at the beginning, then things could have been diferent. Sad for India.

  24. I am a practicing Hindu and a patriot and I thought it was funny. The "hindu jihadi" crowd should take a chill pill.

What we need is a better PR campaign from HAL and a impartial+transparent investigation.

If the Dhruv has a problem, lets fix it – lot of Indian lives depend on it too.
If its OK, then lets tell it to the world. It did save lives of the 2 pilots.

    -V

  25. They have no right to do this.I am a hindu and this is insulting. To all you people who says this is not an insult,we did not disfigure other gods when our hawk crahsed within a month or two.It is pilot error.People should be more responsible. And for all those people who says i am hindu,i am not offended statements…why should lord shiva get insulted for collective indian responsibilities. We have other religions too

  26. To Anonymous 1:44AM

How can a cartoon ever insult a great and ancient Hindu religion? When the Muslims reacted violently to the Danish cartoons it only reflected the shallowness of their religion.

  27. Have some sense of humour guys. There's nothing "religionic" about it. Don't we show a burkha clad women or bearded men with turbans when our cartoonists draw on af-pak and all? Is that bringing religion into it?

  28. Hats off to the Ecuadorians.

Out of sheer ignorance, they have invoked the mighty Lord Shiva in defence of the Dhruv. Woe beide anyone who messes with Mahakaal.

The Dhruv shall rise again to heights of the DHRUV TARA (Pole Star)

  29. anon @ 1:44 AM
The difference between the religion tht created an uproar & ours is that we belong to a tolerant race, giving equal space to criticism. If you want to create an uproar create one for the poverty, corruption & other ills plauging our country & how we can improve us further.

Shiv beware…a right winger can smell a gud opportunity here & maybe stage a dharna to earn political mileage. lolz

  30. Disgrace and Insult to to our nation and our culture.. Are our embassy out there sleeping?? Wake up!!

    HAL wake up!!!!

Shiv, can we have the source of picture please?? We will blast those rouges.

  31. nice to know that they know quite a bit about us!!! they do know some thing about lord shiva… they do can think of someone beyond the great magician of all times… mr Jesua…

  32. come on people let them draw what they like, if god exists as the omnipresent and powerful he/she/it will not mind. Why so serious? we should do our best to clear up this mess and show the truth of what happened, that leads to a better relations in the ling run and yes in more orders.

on a more conspiratorial note could our beloved helicopter have been the target of sabotage by a competitor….or rival

  33. I love that talk of a foreign hand. So reminiscent of the Indira era. When it was not the foreign hand it was the the hand of the RSS. In a different manifestation I heard a story of a DRDO Lab close to a village. Petty thefts of bulbs and wooden waste was often blamed on the residents of the village. Internally everybody was relieved to have scapegoats.

  34. Hindus will not make any issue if it is done with positive aspect in mind. But we will surely like to know. Where is the full article. Anyone got links. Let's translate it and find out whether it is critical of the Dhruv or not. If it is criticizing and provided the cartoon, its surely an insult and that idiots deserve something.

  35. For those with "sense of humour", can you please explain what was the humour in this Cartoon? I still don't get it or the reason for doing so.

Missionaries and Republicans(Southern Baptist Church) enjoy taking a dig at anything dissimilar.

  36. Guys, I tried to get the link of the newspaper to deluge it with protest mails. But, could not locate. In the meantime, flood the Ecuadorian embassy with protest mails to those who feel that this should not be taken lying down!. The details are-

    Embassy of Ecuador

  37. This is result of insensitivity and shear ignorance for others culture and religious beliefs.
We saw this with Prophet Mohammad's cartoons and now with a deity like Lord Shiva.
Reprinting this in the name of freedom of speech, is just nonsense. Two wrongs don't make a right.

  38. For the "proud Indians" who want to go after the ppl behind it..look below the pic..the guy with the Copyright….

Dont see the "highly offensive" or "outrageous" part in it….

Pretty sure this was more than the media expressing its anguish…on their own media seems to have a sense of restraint..and goes after its own Govt. and tries to avoid insulting (not that this was a really good attempt at it) other nations directly.

I guess HAL should get out there and do some PR now…or atleast make that report real fast..
If its pilot errot..get their air force/MoD to admit it..

The best PR if HAL wants to do would be to have some guy bring out an article on crashes of helis….preferably comparable ones….

  39. You are spot on P. Mukerjee. Let us not descend to the level of the followers of the "peaceful religion" who are all for preaching but don't know what they preach.

We are fortunate that we don't have religious councils issuing fatwas at their whims and fancies.

Just treat that cartoon as the work of an idiot who may not even respect his religion or culture and traditions of the land he was born in.

Let us not descend to their pathetic level.

  40. Some of the guys here talk about tolerance. Tolerance to what. Insult? If the Ecuadorian newspaper did something wrong, then they deserve a big kick up their butt. Such idiocy, ignorance, irresponsibility from the part of a newspaper cannot be tolerated.

  41. Hindus don't see anything and everything insulting. Even we have Cartoon characters made of Hindu gods. Bal Ganesh, Hanuman etc are some of them. That's all O.K. Can Have Hindu gods images on T-shirts. But if someone crosses the line and did insult you and your culture, like gods images on Toilet seats, by drawing images in a manner that is intended to mock Indian religions, then they need to be given a strong reply.

  42. Jorge Gabela former head of EAF is very critical of Dhruv. Lies that Indian Navy rejected the Dhruv. He don't know that IN operates 8 Dhruv's in the Utility role. He don't understand the difference between a 10 ton copter and 5.5 Dhruv in the Anti-submarine role. Such stupids are creating a mess of the situation with their ignorance and lies.

  43. To the 'Unproud Indian' who came up with this fantastic idea a la Sherlock Holmes on the guy with the 'copyleft' under the picture! It is not a guy, fyi, but a newspaper! Did you search for the cartoonist himself???!!And if you can help us find the cartoon or its creator in a mumbo jumbo newspaper in Spanish language rather than giving such silly tips…for Godssake! I have emailed the Ecuadorian Embassy and who are you to tell not to see the 'highly offensive' or 'outrageous part'? Let the surfers decide themselves!

  44. I am not a very religion or God-loving man but this is an insult and even extremism-lover Pakistan did not do that before.

Whoever thinks that Ecuador newspaper did this for fun and looks fun…

    1) They did this just after Dhruv crash and accusing HAL and India selling them fault product.

    2) They knows that religion is a sensitive issue in India.

    3) They are finding the worst way to blame India.

India should reply to these low class blames in her own way. They have shown their level ad what they deserve.

Should take note of international arms trade, a very nasty business. HAL and GoI should take care of them in a smart way.

    Wake up HAL.

  45. I am EXTREMELY very happy to see all the mature remarks from the posters. No degrading remarks and cursing about Ecuador. And people not taking this cartoon image personally. I am very proud of my people.

BTW, like most press internationally, the Ecuadorian press are exploiting the ignorance of the regular folks so they can make money.

  46. if this is ignored and goes unpunished,it'll be the most shameful thing for congress,a small country like Ecuador doing stuff like this!

  47. to anon 4:30 AM
you shouldn't have used the words " babbling", "cerebrally challenged people". ok. let put aside the danish thing.first of all i don't think you are an indian. a proud indian will not tolerate foreigners make fun of our gods. they come to india as tourists, perform pujas in our temples(believe me!)and return to their country to make fun of our gods? how can you explain this?

an eye for an eye, as it was said.pakistanis don't even dare to dream for doing this kind of thing.
we are indians a country of billion people. multitude of languages and religions. no where in the entire earth, you will find a country like this. we have respect for other religions. before a hindu, i'm an indian.

some are saying "There is no problem in making cartoons of our Gods, Indians know that. But the most 'intellectual' will understand that this time Ecuador newspaper did it for insult." after their pilots walked out alive, they should thank GOD for this. instead they are up in arms.

becoming a world player doesn't mean that one should have to change their notion about GOD. after all these years in making "The China", they didn't forget about MAO, who is a godfigure for them. let's face it.

tolerance, tolerance, and tolerance. why should we tolerate in the first place ?

    to anon 3:39PM
    well said.

we should issue a Fatwa against the cartoonist who did this….

  48. I dont get the message..from the cartoon…didnt tickle my funny bone either..A political cartoon should have some message..but i dont see anything..in the cartoon..a yogi with a Dhruv airframe..wtf?.. Ofcourse I understand the paper is trying to connect the Dhruv to India..but then what..?
We should put atleast fatwa on cartoonist head..tell some mullah on UttarPradesh to do it..or better..a jehad on Eucador will do.. and burn the newspaper office..ha ha..The cartoonist will be pissing in his pants..
    😉

  49. dear"i feel insulted brigade" – lord shiva, reliable sources tell me, will punish those who mock him. since he is god, he can look after himself. but he begs his followers to get on with their life and do real meaningful work rather than vent their ire at ecuador.

  50. to anon 11:47 -i am an indian and i don't feel insulted – can you stomach that??? or do you have to shove your pathetci argument and say that i am not an indian? so to prover i am an indian, i too have to shout from the roof top? if you by some miracle do believev that i am an indian, then you will say that i am not a hinu. believe me, i am as hindu as they come.
"the pilots came out alive and they should be thankful to god" -really? and not demand a proper investigation?? man, take your silly arguments and buzz off.
    you are pathetic.

  51. Hi all,
First of all let us face facts. Our Dhruv has crashed. Has any body found the cause?Lot of them flying in India also.Once the cause is found, then we can go after the equadorians for their lack of proportion.
Bell and sikorsky will NOT leave this incident. We cannot sell something and refuse to accept responsibility for its defects.

  52. The only way to 'respond' to this provocation is to reform HAL and DRDO so that they can manufacture quality products.

If you think this cartoon is bad, you have no idea what the IAF men think about HAL.
