Wow wonderful news? looking fwd for it…

    1. What kind of time based verifiable milestone are present to make sure HAL & ADA are going to deliver it on time.

    2. Are we incorporating any of the FGFA learning's in this project, If so what all are the commonality of components.

    3. Since a fighter jet design is an expensive & risky venture is there a possibility or scope for us to incorporate some junior partners like some south american/african countries to foot some of the Development costs, like the F35 programme.

    4. Are we counting on Kaveri for the prototypes?

    5. Is it going to be a single pilot or twin seat model like FGFA?

    6. Is IAF actively involved in the development process.

Now, now, now, Is this going to be one heck of a story or another sorry tale of unfulfilled promises debated over innumerable chai-biskoot babu sessions along with the (D)aily (R)ona (D)hona (O)raganization?

Why MCA when we have Pak FA coming up? They both will fall in same category. What a waste of money!

Q1. Why v r developing the MCA when v r developing the FGFA.

why is US developing JSF when it has the F-22 ? same reason. an air force needs different types and different sizes of aircrafts.

Q2. Which plane will it replace,

    mirage-2000, jaguar, mig-29

Q3. Any idea of the numbers to be built, n by what time can c it operational

    numbers > 200
    program starts 2015
    first flight 2018
    IOC/induction 2025
    FOC 2027

Q4. Is it going to be a single or twin seat plane.
    both

Q5. will it have thrust vectoring
    yes

India does not have budget, US has a bigger budget, even F22 production is being scrapped or scaled back.

F22 is 20 year older project than JSF 1984 vs 2003: We do not need MCA. Esp from useless organizations like DRDO/ADA

    To The Above Anonymous(9.05,
Looks like we have a new Defence Minister. From when you(a fanboy) started to decide which aircraft we need and which aircraft we don't need. MCA is said to be an medium weight attack aircraft which would replace Jaugar and Mig-27 while PAK FA would be a heavy weight air superiority aircraft. PAK FA and MCA are two aircraft built for different purpose, aspect and operation.

yes US has a bigger budget, their products are also many times costlier.

cut back to what value ? from more than 500 to around 200.

IAF will be happy if it gets 200 FGFA.

If India wants to duplicate F-16 success story with 5th gen fighter then this would be it. Don't wait, start work and build it around Eurojet 200 so that uncle sam cannot affect its sales and hinder it from becoming a cost effective competition to JSF.
