EXCLUSIVE: LCA Tejas Tableau For Republic Day Parade

The LCA Tejas tableau that debuts on January 26. This mock-up shows the aircraft carrying Astra and R-73 missiles. Remember, 2010 is the year for initial op clearance for the aircraft. Wondering why they didn’t just have one of the PVs flying in the flypast.

  1. I know india will do like this only , they will not allow LCA to fly in R – day . The new aircraft has shown like toys to the world .

  2. Wow, that's a great mock up and looks exactly like LCA. Rather then building such mock ups and spending time on it, India should rather spend some time building some real LCA's.

  3. As per Col. Ajai Shukla, only twin-engined fighters are allowed to fly on Republic day parades (for safety). But Mirage-2000s have flown in R-day parades in the past. A google search reveals this.

So, the reason for a tableau instead of the actual fly-past could possibly be because it is still under testing, and the IAF is too scared to include it in a fly-past — never mind that it has done aerobatics above a couple of lakh observers at Aero-India shows numerous times.

  4. NO PROTOTYPE !!!!!!!!!!! TEJAS will get IOC from INDIAN-AIR-FORCE this year and no PROTOTYPE will fly in republic day ????????? omg !!!!! and there's no video update about LCA-TEJAS for a long time on youtube ,

omg!!!!!!!!! I think DRDO, HAL, IAF EVERYBODY MAKING US FOOL !!!!!!!!!! , ALL I WANT TO SEE IN THIS REPUBLIC-DAY IS LCA-TEJAS FLY IN SKIES , IT MAKES ME FEEL IF IT FLIES IN REPUBLIC-DAY

    THANX…………..

  5. IIRC, they've avoided flypasts of single-engine aircraft over the parade for the past 5-6 years. If memory serves me right, this has been the practice ever since a MiG-27 ran into engine problems as it prepared for it's flypast.

  6. why fly it on the R-day when it is still undergoing flight testing for IOC ? I'm happy that they're concentrating on the work rather than displaying at R-day. No distractions.

  7. njs – there are no tejas to spare to fly in new delhi, each and every tejas is being utilised for the test effort, as it should be.

  8. Thank you My Indian friends for seeing me these many views.
Soon TEJAS will fly in republic day. I am sure you will never forget that impression.
There is no doubt, Indians are great.

IMPOSSIBLE it self says I M POSSIBLE

  9. I will just say JF-17…Paki's have in production and in thier airforce in just one decade long development while our sorry black ass so called engineers are screwing us time after time..:(
F**king shame really!! Idiots screwing us time after time that we can do this and we can do that but they dont have the capacity to do it and just eating our tax money year after year! I'm PISSED !

  10. Anonymous,
The JF-17 is not a clean-sheet design. It was actually derived from the F-7M, which in turn was derived from the MiG-21. So in effect, it's been in development for more than half a century!

Coming to the point about the competence (or incompetence) of our engineers, what base of experience do they have to build on? Every other country which builds fighters has either been doing so independently since even before we won independence, or has taken outside assistance. Sure, we built the HF-24 Marut in the past, but that was basically a 1950's design; even then the skills learned during its development were allowed to fade away.

Keeping these facts in mind, I know that the Tejas is not the best fighter in the world, but it is a necessity because it will develop our skills in the field and because we need a cheap(er) fighter to build up our squadron strength as we retire our MiG-21s

  11. Shiv, can you put up the picture of Shaurya missile which was also displayed in the parade. I believe this is the first time the complete Shaurya mobile launcher system has been displayed. Thanks

  12. India will be very lucky if TEJAS participates in next year's Republic Day fly Past. ADA is not even conducting one flight testing per day for TEJAS.
So much of public money is wasted due to delay but no body is bothered. These MoD departments must be thoroughly reorganised for acquiring a corporate culture. Also people must be held responsible.
    P.K.Chaudhuri.

  13. We will be able to see the Tejas fly during the RD parade in 2011 or 2012 onwards. Tejas will be a replacing the Jaguars of today during that time. May be the Sitara may also fly during that time. We must only include indigenous weaponry and the weapon systems that has been recently inducted in the parade. Everything else must not be there.
