PHOTOS: Indian Army Chief Visits Strike Corps For Exercise Yodha Shakti (“Warrior Strength”)

The Chief of Army Staff witnessed operational manoeuvres including mechanised forces attacks, heliborne operations behind enemy lines, airborne drop by paratroopers and multiple manoeuvres by the mechanised forces and attack helicopters in operational depth. As a reflection of the leadership ethos of the Indian Army, the Para drop was led by the Vice Chief, Lt Gen PC Bhardwaj, the seniormost Special Forces commando in service.

  1. hahaha…damn i wanted to say that however you got there before me 🙂

the other guys around him don't look much like warriors either!

  2. Hey our Ajai Shukla looks fitter than those so called "Strike Corps" guys. The Creme de la creme of the army !

  3. Officers have brains with experience and that is why they are Officers with 1,2,3 or 4 stars. They way I see that they are fit enough to use their brains and experience in the battlefields. Rest of the work would be executed by the young fit clad not visible in the picture. Goodluck to Porkis. 🙂

  4. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. I guess your interpretation of good health implies having pot bellies 🙂

  5. To Anonymous,

That is a pathetic excuse! A general who doesn't even care for his own body shows that he doesn't enough for his country also! It doesn't matter if he NEEDS to be fit, fitness is a state of mind. What is on the outside reflects what is inside a man. A disheveled badly dressed obese individual can most certainly be seen as a disorganized, lazy and irresponsible fellow.

Let these so called generals take responsibilities for their own personal welfare first, then they can claim responsibility for the security of 1 billion people!

In the US Army, physical fitness is a requirement that is tested every six months from a lowly enlisted cadet to a 5 star general. Beer bellies like our generals reflect the decadence of spirit in our armed forces under them.
Our young soldiers and officers deserve better and so do the hundreds of millions of people who depend on these obese generals to be able to be physically fit enough so that they can at least run down a corridor without loosing their breath and fainting in an emergency!

  6. Officers in armed forces need to have both brain and brawns. No excuse for looking like pot bellied Proboscis monkeys.
Why do we Indians have such horrible physique?

  7. For all the fit and warrior like looks of the American and the NATO forces, 'they' are the ones cutting peace deals with the rag-tag-hirsute-cave dwelling talibs in Afghanistan – while the un-warrior like Indian Army is devouring their more pious (& purer since they come from the land of the pure) brethren in Kashmir by the hordes.

So, what s the use of fitter and warrior looking Chiefs – if in the end you are paying protection money to some goons just so that they spare your asses? Now that is un-warrior like!

    No?

  8. Fitter chiefs inspire fitter soldiers. The above advertised potbellied super commanders of the Indian Army are apparently so "brave" that even after 30 years of fighting terrorists in Kashmir, even today, the situations is pretty much the same as it was in 1990.

Apparently, their tactical "brilliance" has solved all the security challenges in Kashmir and that is why even today thousands of Kashmiris sing the praises of India and the Indian Army every other fortnight as whey march through the streets of Srinagar to meet tear-gas and the police!

These very same little Napoleons are the ones who loose soldiers almost on a one is to one basis while allegedly "devouring" their enemies!

It is indeed a shame that the America and NATO commanders don't display the same supreme abilities and genius as India's little Napoleons while they fight in two theaters half way around the world from their home bases with a third of the men deployed in Kashmir and 10 times the area of operations!

its a shame these brilliant Indian generals can't teach NATO and American generals how to win against terrorists and insurgents like how the Indian Army has successfully resolved the terrorist problem in Kashmir and in its North-East!

  9. For us all armchair generals, these pot bellied generals have once served their country with their blood and gut , unlike most of us keyboard commandos. Before passing any stray comments, could we please remember that Indian army is more quality of its personnel than most private companies and many of these pot bellied serve indian corporate sector for more money than most of us can even dream?

  10. Not all indian officiers are like these fatso's and not all american's are fit either. However indians in my oponion are generally not that bothered by their appearence as are some other nationalities and i do not think this has any impact on performance….really. In the UK indians are generally the worst dressed people. But it doesn't mean anything, because i think they have other priorities and are generally very nice people.

WRT to american/indian performace repectively, in Kashmir india has over 300 000+ troops and huge numbers of police for a population of less than 7 million muslims and an area less than third that of afghanistan. Just look at the number of indians commiting suicides in Kashmir.

  11. @Anon 3.19
Our Netas and Baboos also claim that they have "sacrificed" their lives for our nation.Looking at their physique it seems our Sainiks are also joining their ranks.

Plight of IA or any Govt institution is due to lack of good quality officers, as talented individuals want to make a career in the corporate or business world.
Btw, in today's uber competitive corporate/business world you cannot afford to look shabby. No wonder gyms and health clubs are mushrooming everywhere.

  12. Chairborne brigade of keyboard commandos are talking force levels. Wow! So you experts have decided 300k pairs of boots on the ground is more than 100k pairs of boots backed by a full air force that bombs first and questions later? You guys should try posting these comments on BR Forums and try to defend your points. Shiv is too much of a nice guy to waste his time with Mungeri Lals like you.

  13. For all you guys worried about physical fitness and mental toughness, the general has a RANGER tab on his shoulder. That means he has already gone past your ideas of toughness. Been there and done that.At 59 a bit of a paunch is expected unless you would rather have him spend more time in the gym worrying about his looks than taking care of army business.
His job is not to pose around like a tough guy rather to provide a direction to the Indian Army.So if you want to comment on something comment on what he has or has not done in the job that he is paid to handle.

  14. BR is for Racists, Bigots & dumbo's who like being dominated by old sissy boys….it is a forum that turns indians against india period. Even Pak forums allow indians to join openly and discuss without bigotory. They learn from from all. Whereas BR have their heads so far up their butts they cannot see the daylight.

Shiv tolerates all views because one can learn something even from one's opponents. End result one expands one horizons and grows.

  15. Still the fact remains, how can someone who can't manage himself, manage the defense of 1 billion ppl?

If US generals look like our Army chiefs they will be booted out of the Army.

Show me even one US top brass whose arse is jutting out and belly hanging out. If you look closely this pic, in fact all the defense personnel have similar physique.

Our IA is reflecting the rot that has set in.

In Kargil war one high ranking officer died out of heart attack. Several officers were found to be unfit for combat duties.

Indians aren't physically endowed. Hence, we must take extra efforts to stay in shape.

IA is not another sarkari job.

  16. General Tommy Franks was NOT booted out

He is someone who prosecuted two diverse, challenging wars with minimal fanfare and he has no political ambitions like the other US generals. He can afford to be less fit/photogenic and yet do his job, sitting over in Tampa. Apparently the people who worked with him agrees he is good. And IIRC, a drooling Leann Tweeden was saying even she would follow this man in a war.

So if anyone believes strike corps generals have to outrun the tanks to the border, medals jingling merrily like sleigh bells… wake up, it is the 21 century and radio was invented, like a century ago.

  17. The General you're talking about has attended the US Army's elite Ranger School in his days and passed it with instructor qualifications. Most of the officers you see in the photograph are above 52 years of age and lead sedentry lifestyles, due to there seniority and nature of work. The only free time they get goes into a game of golf…….
Unlike their cosmetic American counterparts, who invade a countr only to face defeat; they have seen enough combat and more……

  18. It is easy to sit back in the comfort of your homes and comment on pot bellied generals, how many militants have you faced? Civilians who criticise should know that wearing a uniform itself needs physical and mental capability which goes beyond most civil jobs. I have served in Kashmir and trust me life is far more difficult than sitting inside your house and commenting on physical fitness of our Generals. Grow up boys this is not counter strike that you play on your computers.

  19. Gen VK Singh is a distinguished General who is the 1st Army Chief who is a trained Commando with loads of combat experience…. So people grow up and stop behaving like kids…. Sometimes looks are deceiving…..

As they say He is Truly a Ruthless General

  20. do you see the 'RANGER' badge on his left arm??
do you Pakistanis know what it takes to earn that badge??
how many of your Pakistani generals or colonels or even younger and fir captains have earned it???

google ir and you will know what a ranger badge is and how to get it
