Close to €1billion is being spent on development and procurement of 5 aircraft. Its slated to be a replacement for Luftwaffe's Dassault-Breguet Atlantique. In a time when Europe is begging and borrowing, this is an expensive toy. Target practice even for those cold war era SAMs.

I guess you guys are not aware of our Rustom. India is secretly developing something very similar to this UAV. We only need to look at the mini gas turbine engine that India is developing to know it's applications.

But, India's strategic interests now stretches from Persian Gulf to Straits of Malacca.To cover such a wide area you will need such birds.
