Improved Agni-II IRBM To Be Tested This December

A new improved variant of the Agni-II intermediate range ballistic missile is to be tested in mid-December, DRDO chief VK Saraswat told journalists in Pune yesterday. It appears quite clear that the Agni-II+ (as it is has been referred to) will be a longer range missile, possibly as much as 3,000-km and with greater accuracy. Am trying to gather more on the missile, will update this post shortly.

  1. Shiv, its completely new missile based on earlier Agni-II. The new missile is Agni-II+. It will not have any fins like in the pic.

  2. sir can u give a probable date for agni 5 and also is the agni 5 be mirved if yes then how many warheads will it support and also in the future will it be modified so as to be used as an SLBM.
Can u also write something abt the coating that was discovered by our scientists that increases the range of the ballistic missile by 40 %.Will be looking forward to ur reply.

  3. How is this different from Agni-AT? Or, is it the same with name changed?
Lots of confusion. Could someone plz clarify.

  4. Another press conference for Dr. Saraswat (close on heels of jet lag from overseas trips)!

Just do it, then, may be, just may be, talk. The whole country is with you.

Sad that India does not have more of Bhabha, Sethna, Ramanna or A.P.J.

The whole establishment of DRDO (applies to MoD also) is crying for a leadership change.

  5. It can be expected that all the new and lightweight technologies of Agni-III may be resized and incorporated in to improved Agni-II. This is pertinent as this missile ensures for 100% of pak and 90% of sino.

  6. Shiv, can you please point out what are the reasons for delay in Agni-II+ testing. It was earlier scheduled to be tested by September end. There must be some major technical issues involved at last minutes to postpone the test after announcement of the dates.

  7. Agni II (AT) or Agni II ++ is a hypersonic boost glide missile like Shourya.

Both Shourya and Agni II ++ cannot be intercepted.

Agni II ++ range will be more than 6000 km @ 600 kg payload.

We can call it Hypersonic ICBM
