  1. Shiv does India get its money back on those shaved items (not embedded) within the aircraft – thats lot of money yar ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

  2. so now at least the govt sould go ahead and purchase f16s or fa18, we will hhhave a very so called modern airforce that cant fight due to lack of critical equipments. I think Indi shld tick with dassault or any other fighter except american junk.

  3. It will be the same thing for f-16, SH and F-35, no surprise here.
When you buy an american plane, you have to be a very nice customer and if Uncle Sam tells you to say 'yes', you must say 'yes' immediately.

  4. So much so for the importance USA attaches to India as a "strategic partner" hahah!all this talk of India is mere hogwash and India has done the right thing by not signing CISMOA.. any one even without any strategic knowledge of geopolitical affairs would agree that

    a) you don't put conditions while entering into high value strategic partnerships that question the very basis for having a partnership in the first place..

b)If USA is so distrustful of India, then why sell any equipment to it in the first place and again why at all enter into any perceived partnership with us.. for democracy's sake? Oh please! give us Indians a break we can do without your high quality equipment!

India has done the right thing by not signing the CISMOA and just like in the case of the Nuclear liability bill,India has put indian interests ahead of any commercial interests of a so called strategic partner.

  5. IAF needs to get rid of it's cold war mentality. Again it seems we have been duped due to ham handling of this matter by both MOD and IAF. Without these eqps we are basically getting a vintage AC at ultra modern prices. Without these eqps it makes no sense to acquire this AC as they are the bedrocks which make this AC fit for special operations.

The quality of IAF has fallen to that of our babus and netas. They are doing another quasi clerical sarkari desk job. They r more interested in subsidized stuff from military canteen than taking interest in military affairs. No wonder they need a Sachin as "brand ambassador".

  6. I agree with the "sensationalizing" part, specially when the Air Force chief said that removal of these items would not make a difference.

  7. Nothing serious about it. It is prerogative of a customer not to accept some additional features which are subjected to preconditions.

Either those features may not be seriously desired or can be alternatively procured indigenously or by other imports.

A qualitative change may be brought in to the situation, if US turns more user friendly i.e. India friendly and then these features if still needed can be purchased with mutual consent.

  8. @5:01pm..totally agree..shiv didn't u cover this news before about the equipments missing…its not that critical anyways

  9. I am sure, IAF is interested in the "Platform" per se and not the so-called advanced "Systems". I am sure our engineers and scientists are all too capable of outfitting this platform with capable enough systems. I am totally with the IAF on its decision to not "give-in" to demands for signing agreements which do not benefit India tactically, and ties it down further to American technology denial regimes as experienced in the past. Also, such so-called advanced systems are essentially technologies which allow "End-use" monitoring of the platforms, which will restrict India's strategic autonomy in exercising its new acquisitions.

  10. Shiv, How many countries have signed CISMoA so far? For Ex: Did Pakistan sign CISMoA? The CISMoA US wanted India to sign is similar to the one other countries signed?

    Kindly reply.

    Thank you.
    Ravi

  11. Hey Shiv, why you say "US strips IAF plane" it sounds like US took something away that belonged to us. Why do folks forget that the GOI and MOD were well aware at the on-set that if CISMoA is not signed, some of the high tech components will not be provided. It's not like US forced us to buy these planes. We bought them knowingly that CISMoA was a necessary to receive the the planes as advertised. We had two choices, either we should have rejected these planes, or we should take them as per the agreement… which is no CISMoA, then no "High Tech Gear". The problem is with our Babus who step in thinking that they will get these agreements whithout a political penalty. Then later in the game they realize that the political penalty could be too high, and thus we decided to take the inferior product and blame the US for not providing the technology. It looks as if we are busy thinking in a short-term tactical manner, while forgetting completely about the long-term strategies. We do not have to have an anti-US stance all the time. At least in this case, it's GOI and MOD who should take the blame, US is only living by the terms of the contract. Like I said earlier, if we did not like these terms, we had a choice to say NO. But we did not.

  12. What is the opposition doing? Are they sleeping? The BJP and other parties should be making a lot of noise about this in the parliament. How can we buy aircraft from the USA which is stripped of critical equipment, while Pakistan is being given the same for FREE!

It's a pity that there are so few people like you who don't look at an issue simply in black and white terms. I fully agree with you. In future we will need advanced eqps. And Russia is today no longer comparable to USSR. Even the EEC doesn't comes anywhere close to USA in terms of advanced def eqp. It's the advanced communication system that allowed USA to have complete dominance in both gulf wars inspite of having smaller number of troops and eqp.

We will be signing this treaty sooner or later as we will be depending even more on USA for advanced eqp. Without CISMOA we may again get a stripped down version on P8I and maybe E2D in case they decide to sell that to us.We can choose to reluctantly sign this treaty after loosing much vital technologies when they are required desperately or sign this treaty now and take full advantage of them while our competitors are yet to catch up.

  14. Our defense personnel are no different than middle class babus who are scared to take any decision and always choose to push files from one table to another.

Dithering over signing this agreement just reflects the lack of leadership qualities in our armed forces. They need to shake off typical Government apathy and risk aversion for everything. It is this socialist mindset that has kept India tied down for so long.
