Agni-II+ Missile Test Fails

Just received this statement from DRDO: Experimental Launch of A2-P MISSILE experienced a trajectory deviation immediately after the lift-off having failure of the mission (sic). Detailed analysis is in progress. Many new technologies like composite rocket motor, indigenous ring laser gyro based navigation system, road mobile launch were being tested in this mission. Many of these new technologies have been proved.

More details in a bit.

  1. this is what happens when we get ahead of ourselves……. the indian press started talking about Agni-5 & how it will make india a potent force against China ……when have not even been able to certify the Agni-2…..rather than engaging in wishful thinking we should invest more money on indian indigenous missile development rather than buying fancy stuff from the united states.

i am seriously worried about india's deterrence capabilities…..

  3. DRDO rocks!!!!
I dont know what is the reason in testing the drdo products. we all know that how it will work. i hope it did not hit any metros.. we dont need any paki any chinki missiles to hit our metros…our DRDO junk missiles will do that job.
This is what will happen if you hire people on the basis of reservation on high profile institute. They just care about how to go up by bribing and talk about caste, politics, movies etc and submitting the same thesis in the name of r&d every quarter.
Just giving pink slips to this pan-parag dumbos will save you billions.
DONT WASTE HARD EARNED PEOPLES MONEY IN THE NAME OF R&D.

  4. Paki specific Agni-1 is there for our main enemy.
Failures will be there and unlike commies or Paki's where such things never come out,i hope the DRDO makes full efforts to rectify the issues identified.
The Ruskis, even with their wealth of experience failed 6 times on the 'bulava' series of missiles.

  5. To the people who are criticizing DRDO: Americans and Russians missile also failed many tests. According to you those people also do not know how to make missiles.

GROW up dudes and realize that the missile technologies are very complex techs and are not easy to develop. All major countries have faced failure and then learn form them to get success. Failure adds to learning curve.DRDO guys are not GOD that they will do everything rite first time.

The important thing is to see if DRDO has learn anything from the failure.
Always remember the quote by Einstein
"a man who has never failed has done nothing new"

So to DRDO guys keep your chins up. You succeed next time

  6. Guys,
Don't just use your fingers and criticize DRDO. They are doing better.

Given all corruptions and lack of infrastructure, they are doing better. Its not DRDO in INDIA has have failures. Check what is government is doing ? tell me one successful government.

And from where all these people in government and DRDO come ? from Mars ? Jupiter ? Heaven or hell ?
They come from our own INDIAN society. So if you want to see some great achievements in INDIA, better go and change the society which is full of problems.

I am not saying that, I do not criticize. I also do it, but please for god sake, don't just make a habit to criticize everything. We have to know this thing DRDO will be main missile factory in INDIA and we can change it.

    @spanky,
Good words from Einstein, and thanks for spreading it.

  7. Some rather poor comments over here.

Even the US'Trident missiles failed several tests.
Infact, with DRDO i would be rather nervous/suspicious if things didnt fail tests!

  8. If you have never failed….you have never really tried

What DRDO should do is keep these things secret…there is no point in revealing these to the public…only issue post successful test media releases!!!..

  9. @india defence forum: you know why u never hear of pakistani missiles failing tests- coz they are just north korean/chinese missiles just painted in pak army colors..FYI even Russian Bulava and Topol M missiles have failed tests, as have many American patriot missiles and THAAD systems..being a defence analyst as you claim yourself to be on ur forum page, i would have hoped for more balanced views from you rather than just aimless and persistent DRDO/India bashing..be anti indian or anti DRDO if u choose to be, but don't be childish & immature in ur arguments! Jai Hind!

  10. Failure is the stepping stone to success. As long as we admit our mistakes and rectify them, we are on the right path. DRDO bashers on Internet probably cannot even change the tyres of their cars. DRDO must bash on regardlessly, we need them and the nation needs them too. We need more tests not less because these peace time tests will ensure our war time victory. Good luck DRDO. Jai Hind.

  11. I agree with ArkAngel, I would be uncomfortable if all our missile tests were successful like the Pakis and Chinis. It means only one thing that we are merely manufacturing and painting a foreign missile in Indian colors. Real strength comes from learning the nitty gritty of such advanced tech. This only happens after you test and rectify the errors. This is a very arduous and expensive process hence few countries dare to venture into hardcore R&D. Hats off DRDO, better luck next time. We are proud of you.

  12. Best luck next time to Agni-IIP. I know in history you have always failed before passing with flying colors.

However I am afraid that DRDO sometimes performs the in-flight destructive testings of some of its sets of components to achieve the ultimate QC and to confuse the taxpayers with their hardly earned money.

Even the Bulava missile has passed after so many obstacles:

  13. just bcoz missile deviated trajectory doesnt mean it is a failure, it still took off without blowing up on ground if launched it may still hit some target but not the desired one…

also they would have got good data from various sensors and the new motors which will prove useful…

  14. is that really a 3000 km range missile??
its first stage looks too large for a mere 3000 km range. the missile is as large as a minuteman III or the russian topol-m.

i think its range is a lot more than the 3000 kms.

  15. If weather did not permit the proper launch, and thus Agni failed, I feel it uncomfortable, Pakis or Chinks do not select perfect day with clear skys to launch an attack.

It is my understnading that counter-attack must happen in any adverse condition.

Does that mean all Agni missiles or any missile from DRDO needs a perfect day to counterstrike?

    I am worried now!

  16. I am happy our scientists are having a few failures; it means that they are pushing their boundary. Our scientists need to keep pushing their boundary to keep-on advancing.

    Thnaks, DRDO!!!

  17. Was the idea to test it before the Chinese PM came to India and therefore to send him a message? The missile will work good luck DRDO.

  18. A2P will carry extra fuel to carry out intense maneuvers to avoid BMD and still achieve same range of Agni-II that’s 2000km plus with a one tonne payload

  19. Our country is developing these indigenously…… so we should not be disappointed by the failure as no country in the world has 100% sucess in the missile tests……..within a few years our country is going to have the best missile techologies as we have developed 20-30 years where the other countries have taken 40-50 years and our missile tech has not been borrowed or copied so let us support DRDO in their venture and wish them the best .

  20. success can only come after some failures….i salute the DRDO..they work on a pittance..yet their patriotism and dedication is truly admirable…we citizens should support them whole heartedly…..no missile is ever ready before some failures…keep at it guys…..keep at it….

  21. Listen Up! The DRDO is making an effort more than anyone of us are doing at the present moment! It takes time and failures in order to perfect weapon systems. Look where how far we have come. There is miles to go but we are better than the years past. Eery nation makes failures in their weapons development, the USA for example learned from these failures and thus perfected their weapons by studying it. Other nations will never discuss such failures and it may serve a purpose (i.e. propaganda, patriotism, etc.). IT doesn't matter if India fails, it will succeed. My personal opinion is that we should be in a position to test more rapidly not once a year or so. We should be able to develop such systems in quantity and tweak it accordingly if problems arise. We will only learn if test often and study any incidences of failures, and take immediate steps to rectify the problems with effective solutions.

  22. Really appreciate the guys who have supported DRDO even after hearing this failure story.

I am glad to hear that DRDO missile development is trying new technologies and testing the same.

Failures are bound to happen and its nothing uncommon.

All the very best to DRDO…KEEP TRYING NO MATTER IF FAILURE COMES IN UR WAY…
