  1. Can't we order 40 more thrust improved versions of GE F404 engines by sacrifice x000 hours of life and lowering x00 mean time between overhauls to achieve 90kn+ thrust to keep Tejas mk-1 production line running till 2018, when mk-2 is expected to hit the lines?

  2. Money was behind Kashmir protests: Militant leader

Jammu: A heavy flow of money was behind the stone-pelting protests in Kashmir last summer, according to a top militant leader who was believed to be instigating the stir in the Valley.

Hardline Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam, who became an icon for protesters, has told interrogators that he spent Rs 40 lakh to organise the protests that left more than 110 people dead in clashes with security forces.

"He also revealed that he had received the money from separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani," a senior police officer said.

"We are trying to find out the channels through which the money came to Geelani and was distributed among the protest instigators like Masarat Alam," Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has been quoted as saying in local newspaper Daily Excelsior.

Alam was arrested in October and curfew was imposed in Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley a day after the arrest to prevent any violence.

The protests gained in intensity following the death of 17-year-old Tufail Mattoo after he was hit by a teargas shell in Srinagar on June 11. The subsequent unrest in the Valley claimed 110 lives, of mostly youngsters.

  3. @Anon 4:19 PM: never read more pathetic and factually wrong article….the author suffers from Xenophobia (rather Sinophobia). One thing to be agreed is that China is definitely a threat to India in long term..That doesnt mean we need to be phycos like the author suggests…

    Very badly written article.

  4. Till now Mig 21 was the flying coffin. Now Tejas is going to join in that party. we all know about HAL maintenance.
If HAL is going to produce TEJAS in mass ? numbers then i dont know how many its going to kill both IAF pilots and public.

God please save the people in and around sulur airforce station they need protection from this TEJAS.

    TAX PAYER

I'm Indian. Didn't feel any "shivers down my spinal cord." That article is crude at best, too shallow to be professional.

On topic: Finally. Now lets get the new F414s in there and have the Mark 2 flying!

  6. [email protected] p.m.: Thanks for the link! It was a thoughtful read. Yes, the Chinese dragon is a formidable adversary and the current government seems to be following the same approach as the
Nehru govt in '62. In my view, I think the best thing we can do is to have a clearly demarcated and well publized nuclear doctrine like that of Pakistan: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_doctrine_of_Pakistan) — which states in which conditions we will go nuclear. The pakistani nuclear doctrine vis-a-vis India is based on the same assumption of overwhelming superior force that we face vis-a-vis China.

Hence we should simply lower our nuclear threshold from the current stand of "No first Use" to that of tactical nuclear strikes as and when a certain %age of land is lost to the enemy or is in the threat of being overwhelmed by the enemy. And we should back up this change in our nuclear doctrine with appropriate tactical nuclear hardware like artillery-delivered
nukes, special forces-delivered man-portable nuclear devices, nuclear air-to-air, surface-
to-air missiles etc. Because it is only the threat of a trigger happy nuke india which will keep the chinese at bay just as a trigger happy nuke pak is keeps us at bay! Jai Hind!

  7. hey spanky,u r nuts,[email protected] p.m article was not badly written, yes its overestimating the them (almost making it a god like), but the base message is true, the 2 are definately plotting bigtime against us together and executing as well from time to time(proof is in the pudding, just see past 5 year data on what all happened )..while we are doing almost nothing about it..or just taking baby steps with no resoulute, what a shame.

  9. Did you pay your advance tax yesterday Tax Payer?

Anyways, great news! I believe Tata Advanced Materials is going to supply some composites for the Tejas. Can anyone throw some light on what the issues are that prevent HAL from involving more private sector firms to speed up the serial production of the Tejas?

  10. I dont believe they pay much tax in Pak., where the previous tax payer is from.

BTW, lot of private companies involved in LCA…met a guy who works in precision mfg in Kumaran, they supply parts to HAL for LCA
