    Awesome. Protecting against and eliminating piracy in the Indian ocean will legitimize our claim as the protectors and police of the IOR

    Piracy is due to mainly the failed Islamic African states like Somalia, yemen,etc.

    These guys are as good as AlQaeda. As a rule, IN releases these people after capturing them. So, now they are laughing ther way to off shores of Lakshwadeep.

    Just having the best gun will not secure us unless we also have the will to use it .

    The Sniper rifles may need to have RUBBER cartridges,..

    @anon 7:34,
    Arre yaar first understand what the scenario is.
    A navy ship does not routinely fight pirates or individuals at close range.The MARCOS complement is limited in number and it cannot be put on every patrolling ship.Besides the MARCOs have their duties in India itself. A sniper rifle available to general crew will be an asset to enable more discrimination in targeting of suspects.A naval ship is not designed for discriminate and close quarter fighting. Remember,INS Delhi made mince meat out of Thai Trawler taken over by pirates with her guns.Unfortunately some Thais were casualties too.Normal MMGs/LMG are also cannot pinpoint a single target and a assault rifle/insas will not have the range or accuracy.Herein lies the rquirement of a sniper to the general complement of the ship for such peculiar circumstances.
    @Mathi,
    The IN is operating in international waters.There is no law of the old to hang a pirate by the nearest yard -arm .There is little law in failed states.Obviously you cannot just shoot them.I am sure IN takes the best action as warranted by the circumstances.
