    This war game is futile in front of nuclear war. india should practice in nuclear war condition, as pakistan will use nuclear arms in case of any indian attack.

    We must desist from this foolish saber rattling. What's the point in making false claims? How far can we get inside Pakistan territory with our existing capabilities i.e. no stealth helicopters and no eqp to jam the radars and cut of electricity in the area of operation? The 'compounds' we will be attacking will be heavily fortified terrorist camps and not some hideout in midst of upper middleclass residential area.
    I fully concur with Mani Shankar Iyer's views (as expressed in recent NDTV programme) on this matter, that we should quit rocking the boat and do everything in our capacity to strengthen the nascent and weak civilian Govt of Pakistan (which can be our best ally). Such statements from our top brass will only strengthen the hands of the Army and ISI who hate to relinquish their power to civilians.

    @shiv – You may choose not to publish these comments on the blog. Why is the tone of Headlines Today's reports very jingoistic and dramatic? It may be a cultural thing or the anchors have been told to be so. Gestures and body language suggest the anchor's position on the news report and If when these becomes obvious, it looks childish on TV. Reporters need to control their emotions, otherwise news would look more like a personal recording. Hopefully my comments are taken in good spirit.

    @Anon11:36.Sabre rattling!!!
    This is a military exercise that happens on a regular basis as part of training.These are critical to validate operational planning as well as to demonstrate operational readiness. Why are you so enamoured by the US operation.They were after a symbol and a prize.There are many means to tackle an enemy and we are doing it as per our scenario.Take Kashmir for instance,the Pakis and jehadis in the 1990s threw every thing at us.WE bore the brunt of suicide attacks ambushes in the 90s long before the war on terrorism became a catchphrase.The Indian army over time ground them down to a position where apart from an odd ambush here and there they do little.And of-course throw stones in the valley.Very different from the scenario of US wanting to scarper away from Afghanistan.
    Just take a look at the pakis!What a mess they are in,they are being dealt with all right.
    All they can do is run to big daddy china for a change of diapers and support
    Pakistan relishes to needle India with words whenever it can,time we also did, and enjoy watching them stew in the troubles entirely of their own making.
    All we can hope is Pakistan learns a few lessons for the future.
    A civil govt. will automatically develop in Pakistan when its own society supports it. Pakistan has minuscule middle class.Its a feudalistic illiterate artificial mass sought to be binded around a mass of confused nation hood based on religion and a paranoid separation from India.Any acknowledgement or link with India is seen to somehow be against the concept of Pakistan.Until the time Pakistan itself develops a civil society and democratic institutions,India can do little but be prepared militarily.
    I think there is nothing more foolish than the view that a civil Pakistan govt will be friendly to India.

    @ anon 8:12 The media reporting is for the average Indian citizen.He/she is not aware of the technicalities and such reporting is absolutely OK.
    Media in every country do it be it BBC or CNN or French or Russian etc etc.Notice how the american media has changed SEALS to almost God like status.And if yo really wan to to see jingoism at its best,watch FoxTV USA!
