Indian Deal For Ten Boeing C-17s Cleared

The Indian govt today cleared the country’s largest defence deal with the US so far. Long expected, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved a $4.1-billion deal for 10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster-III heavy transport aircraft. The deal is expected to hold options for six more aircraft.

The deal includes $1.12-billion in offsets, which reportedly includes a high-altitude engine test facility and trisonic wind tunnel facility for India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation.

  1. Ah finally!, always suspicious about the SH and solah, but the C17is a lovely beast. Good decision IAF/MOD.

Now get those ALG's ready for these monsters so all heavy weapons can be transported easily and rapidly.

  2. the powerpoint presentsation shows the professionalism.
Hope our guys too learn to make good ones in the future.

  3. Shivji Thanks a lot for SO MANY good news in 2 days

1 T72 upgraded 2 BHIM back on track
    3 C 17 cleared

The latest photos of ARJUN tank in a formation are also sexy

  4. This is a good buy. LM will offer reliable support for the planes as well, becasue contract mean something in the west – unless off course uncle Sam decides to intervene.

    Cujo

  5. wonder what we will carry in these giant planes,,we have almost negligible modern artillery and other assests

  6. Congratulations India! A wise choice. The C-17 is a tough, dependable heavy, and our IAF pilots will absolutely love to fly it. Happy landings! When will these com in?

  7. To the guy who said 400 mill for one plane is fukin mad…

Its actually around 300 mill each if u subtract the 1.12 billion set aside for other facilities and parts etc.
A fighter jet costs around 100 mill to make so therefore this price is reasonable.

Remember that America is far more professional compared to the Russian scum who always rip us off.

  8. No doubt we are being riPped off no doubt it is a good Plane but look at the price at that price Russians may give us il78 production line or even ukrainians may also give us any production plane that they have

  9. Take it, its now going to be a Globemaster scam after 2G. This government led by sonia should not handle purchases above Rs:1. & civil society should become part of the committee…!!

  10. It will sound odd, but I have a better idea. Why not give Pakistan 1 billion $ aid and become their friends instead of ploughing 100s of billions of $s in this white elephant called defense? Can we afford and sustain such high defense expenditure when more than 80% of our people are malnourished or almost half the population is living below poverty line? The type of absolute poverty that you witness in India does not exist even in sub saharan Africa.

  11. Will the C17 feature newer cockpit features borrowed from the 777 or 787 or will it retain the older cockpits?
