MMRCA Commercial Bids Open Any Time Now

The two final commercial bids in the $12-billion Indian medium multirole combat aircraft (MMRCA) competition will be opened any day now by an MoD Contract Negotiation Committee (CNC). A designated representative(s) from both finalists — Dassault and Eurofighter — will be invited to the Ministry of Defence, where they will be asked to physically authenticate their bid envelope before it is opened. According to procedure, the contents of both bids will be read out to all present and then signed by all members of the CNC. Any day now.

Importantly, the four commercial bids of the contenders, that were eliminated in late April, are still with the MoD. They haven’t been returned yet. These will presumably be returned to the eliminated vendors on the day that the two finalists’ bids are opened. Or will they.

  1. Coool…am eagerly waiting!..This whole drama of MMRCA is being played for the past few yearss..yes years..hope it would go to the best and lowest bidder!

  2. my grandmas and Grandpas who are in heavens, my half dozens kittens and my puppy are all eagerly awaiting for the winner of the MMRCA contest.
My puppy and parrot are shouting and yelping " RAFALE!!! RAFALE!!!"Damn it!! they too are scared of BAe!!!!

  3. For last four years we have been only hearing about bids, tests etc, but no concrete action. By the time the deal gets done and the aircrfts delivered they will be somehow retired from their respective origin countries.

  4. Eurofighter – political support

    Rafale – Nuclear capable

    if no both…..

F-18 – US support ' war against Pakistan'.

  5. why don't they select mighty super duper f 22 killer jf 17 thunder storm . it gonna smoke em up all lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  6. The Rafale has already been chosen. The only reason why the Typhoon is in final is to make sure the Rafale is the L1.

  7. L1 bidder might be :
    1) Gripen NG ( sasthi, chikni, tikau)
    2) MiG 35 (reliable, not so costly)
    3) F16 IN ( Battle proven jet)
    4) F/A 18 SH (slightly expensive)
    5) Rafale (expensive but capable jet)
    6) EF typhoon ( gold plate jet)

Our MoD needs to look very carefully at all the bids before finalizing the deal …..

  8. RidiculousLy short of Fighter Aircrafts, it would be a drop in an Ocean.
    "Too Little too Late".
Why dont India opt for J.V IN Manufacturing Fighter Aircrafts, with Russia given the success of Bhramos Venture.
Buying is not a good Long term Strategy.

I think i am with you that the Rafale has already been chosen. I liked the high altitude capability of typhoon, at the same time i am distrustfull on anglo-german europian nexus. So i strongly believe that French r still a safe bet for India to face current world order

  10. i think it should be the french dassult rafale as it has a better range ,better payload and also lower in cost than eurofighter.besides that india has already been operating french dassult mirage2000 so defenitely rafale is going to have an upper hand in the race.i don't know if eurofighter typhooon is embeded with diamond or what ,its so costly ,so costly that we can even have a 5th gen fighter for that money

  11. in A-A rafale RF is good and ground role is much better than EF.and less cheaper and iaf already have infrastructure of mirage which are similor to rafale.it a good deal to have rafale all around!!!!

  12. info from swiss and brazil suggest eurofighter´s maintenance/ lifecycle costs are higher, which makes me think rafale has this one if the bag.
with india and uae, as well as qatar and kuwait all looking like likely buyers, rafale looks set for it´s dose of success, even if brazil will delay it´s purchase again. typhoon is a nice plane, but when both are deemed capable and rafale is cheaper up-front and sustained, it´s a no-brainer. not to mention rafale´s compatability with the future Snecma-GTRE Son of Kaveri which will have further advantages.
Now what i want to know is why did the ´ranking´ poll several months ago not have an option listing Rafale as number 1?

  13. heads up, in case you missed it buried amongst the rest of his grammatically-challenged rant: the previous commenter is apparently threatening/advocating murder of people he doesn´t like in the indian government. don´t know if that´s something you want to host on your blog.

  14. Piare Bhandulog,

Anthony , MMs and Chidubhai are gonna make sure that the deal is scuttled one way or the other. Do not forget their common destiny with the Pakis and the periodic rant of Hindu Terrorism and the the famous black listing.

    So dont bother .
