To Andaman With The Indian Navy

Will be spending the next few days in the Indian Ocean shooting a special report on the navy for Headlines Today. Getting on board with them from Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) tomorrow. Amphibious assault, disaster relief ops, coastal surveillance, island protection, the works. Stay tuned for photos, videos and updates. Here’s the stuff I pulled during a similar shoot last year in the Bay of Bengal :D.

  1. Shiv,
Is the aircraft in the picture Mig-29K or Sea Harrier?
Also, I would be highly obliged if you could post more images from this perspective. I have not seen any other IAF/IN pic like this one.
    Thanks.

  2. No, I was not joking and now I am really embarrassed. Even so, the picture is unique. Even though I have seen thousands of such pics of civil airliners, I have not come across one of an IAF aircraft.
So, if you have more of such pics, do share.

  3. Shiv, Have u had any opportunity to see barren island? I hear few Nuclear warheads and silos present there…Since the Joint command was formed in 2001 a lot of radars, detection equipment were stationed there, i happen to see two jaguars on 1 Nov 2001 roaring over port blair(watched them from my school)…wud be nice if u cud post an article on the strategic aspect of these islands.

  4. @Manish: Yes, I will be back just in time 😀

@Litmus: I have indeed been lucky enough to see Barren Island, from a warship. Will be writing on my visit. Nothing about placement of strategic assets, sorry 🙂
