Supreme Commander To Scope Indian Navy Fleet

This slick recruitment advert for the Indian Navy was in today’s newspapers (I think that’s stealth frigate INS Tabar in the picture — please correct me if I’m wrong). Oh, I’m off to Mumbai tomorrow to cover the President’s Fleet Review (PFR) of the Indian Navy’s fleet — including 81 warships and 44 aircraft — that will be on ceremonial display for the country’s Supreme Commander. I covered the country’s last PFR in Visakhapatnam in 2006. Stay tuned for photos and updates, and have a great week!

  1. Dear Anon @ 7:44. This is very much an Indian Navy Ship and the pic is from Exercise Malabar with the US Navy. Go and type Indian Navy on the US Navy photo gallery and you will find this picture/1

    cheers

  2. shiv, this is out of context, but do you have any idea or developments on MMRCA, since its december now? everyones waiting for the winner and theres nothing..please dig out sommin…thanks

  3. I'm not in support of parading the Navy in front of the current President of India, Smt. Pratibha Singh Patil. First of all I don't understand how she is made the President of India when the people wanted Dr.Kalam. Really shame on the political class for not hearing people's voice.

  4. Sir, your job is the best job in the world. U are doing something which you are passionate about and that shows in your journalism. Keep up the great work. Wish you all the success.

  5. Shiv is correct. This is indeed INS Tabar. And last anon, without knowing about stealth in warships, don't open your mouth. This is a Russian design, based on the Krivak-III.

  6. I really wish the Indian armed forces start a reserve concept like the US national guard and reserve units. It would be an option for all of us who missed the opportunity to sign up.

  7. What abt the much waited mmrca…Its already running late…Thanks to our Govt and buruecracy red tape…Why no news abt the MMRCA still .Is Mr. Antony too busy with FDI and Lokpal..If the Govt. messes up this project…IAF will suffer

  8. On first glance I thought it was a Shivalik class, but there are some differences from pictures of that class I have seen.

  9. why is everyone exited about mmrca. we all know that, now defence ministry will ask us to wait till mid 2012 then december 2012. they were able to strectch this project from benchmark of 10.5 billion to 20 billion, so that it can be put to hold to make every one think that whether this much costly venture is required or not. now lot of people r thinking gripen ng or mig35 would have been much cost effective appropriate choices.
