PHOTOS: Tejas Sea-level Trials At Goa

New official photographs of the LCA Tejas at Goa undergoing sea-level trials recently. The seventh limited series production aircraft (LSP-7) is expected to make its first flight by February. My previous post on the Tejas and its new problems is here.

  1. This bird look gorgeous. I think only God knows when it will get FOC and powerful engine. It may not even get FOC. Who knows.

  2. where has the tejas naval variant gone.it was supposed to make its 1st flight in december.there has been no news about it now.is the project till on or has been called off.

    china rolled out a 5th gen aircraft and made its 1st flight within 20 days. the naval variant of tejas has been rolled out in 2010 but still has't made its first flight yet

  3. The photo taken from rear/above is classy. The LCA is getting ready to be considered a modern fighter in the league of Gripen etc. Willing to wait some more time to get a classy product.

These LSPs are all Mark-I's whereas Mark 2 prototype would be ready only in 2014 which willnot only be bigger but heavier too and it is hoped that with the GE 414 it would meet IAF's expectations.they will eventually order 180 MK2s if all goes well.The underpowered MK-1s would just be 40 in nos.

  5. A plane which looks great, will fly great. Tejas is great looking from some angles. A humble request to ADA. Please make it great looking from all angles in Mk 2. Then it will be the best light weight fighter in the world.

  6. If lazy and corrupt brains in IAF,MoD had not abandoned Marut R&D efforts back in 1970's, we would be seeing AMCA flights in 2011 today.

  7. Well the Mk1 was not really underpowered and has a good thrust/weight ratio as it.. but the Mk2 definitely packs in a bigger punch

  8. even after their test pilot commited suicide and two decades of money down the drain these guys still haven't given up…..talk about positive thinking!!!!

    But seriously what is the piece of kit trying to pass off as a fuel tank,under the starboard wing.

    That it is not a fuel tank is evident by the angled profile at the rear in pictures 3 and 9.

(i)Add French SPECTRA to Tejas (although the French will ask for the right(?)amount), (ii)add EL- 2052 AESA radar to it, (iii)add a supercruise 3- D thrust vector engine to it, (iv)go for a STOVL configuration and, if possible,(v)include the Russian PLASMA stealth— it will be a world beater and serve the nation for at least,next 50 years if not more.

  11. 2014 for a Mk2, why does it take so long? where is the bottleneck, not enough engineers, not enough funding? at a times when China is cranking out J10B, J11, J20. I do not believe it is an issue with skills or expertise since the Indian engineers I met at MIT and during my profesional career are very bright.

    I kind of like the shape of the Tejas, if it is longer. The Mk1 looks a bit short, hopefully the Mk2 will fix that. Since 1st fligth is not until 2014, the Mk2 should be designed to fit the F414 EPE so it can supercruise. At the same time, the wing leading edges should be from composite and not aluminum, so the Mk2 is stealthier.

  12. The PV-5 looks great. Tejas Mk 2 should take inspiration from the existing model and improve upon it. Best Wishes ADA.
