Indian MoD Clears Path For Rafale: Report

Dassault Aviation will heave a big sigh of relief. For now. The Indian Ministry of Defence has completed inquiries into a recent complaint about the selection of the Rafale in India’s M-MRCA fighter competition, according to a Hindustan Times report today, and final negotiations are on.  The final negotiation process had been held up following a complaint received earlier this year.

Responding to a March letter by then Member of Parliament MV Mysura Reddy, defence minister A.K. Antony is quoted by Hindustan Times to have recently responded saying, “The issues raised by you were examined by independent monitors who have concluded that the approach and methodology adopted by the Contract Negotiations Committee (CNC) in the evaluation of the commercial proposals thus far, have been reasonable and appropriate and within the terms of the Request for Proposals (RFR) and Defence Procurement Procedure, 2006.”

A separate report in The Tribune today suggests that while the inquiry, conducted by three independent monitors, has indeed concluded that all procedures were followed by the Contract Negotiation Committee (CNC), it is likely that the process will be looked at again by the Department of Defence Finance once final recommendations are submitted.

  1. I see here some bloggers (disguised) are doing only document review, instead of concentrating on the news.

  2. Proof has been made that Reddy's accusations were false, now this phony should be investigated and prosecuted.

  3. as already mentioned the rafale deal will not be signed before 2014 general elections, so this news is of no use.

  4. True.. reddy should be inquired and punihsed severly if found guilty… under some anitnational act….

  5. Actually, HAL put much monney for extend factory for build the rafale production , the 18 first rafale must be delivered before 2017, that mean production start in 2013. the next 30 would be produced by India with a strong Dassault support, the other 80, by India alone, they are now two standard, the French standard and Indian Standard, they can make all evolution they want on it.
The main diffrence of rafale iwth F35 and eurofighter is the high potential evolution. F35 is to complex and can be fast obsolet, eurofighter is to limited because its design concept of air-air interceptor. it is to poor in multirole, to heavy, no aesa, bad bomber, no navy version, no nuke strike, no recce, no war electronic, no sead, no cas.
For what i know, negociation go very fast. That can be signed at end year, its look possible. Since i follow, India had always respected its timing.

  6. The concerned MP says that he is still not satisfied by the reply. How can one MP hold to ransom the defense and security of India? There should be a probe as to which lobby the MP is acting. It is improbable as to how the MP will have expertise on such a complex and technical matter conducted in secrecy by the Ministry and IAF without the support of vested interests.

not on and now on changes the entire meaning and relevance ..if u got nothing good to say then shove that dictionary up ur arse

  8. Reddy shall be expelled from Telgu Desam Party immediately. I am NEVER going to vote for Telgu Desam Party unless Reddy is expelled for selling our defense to lobbyists.

  9. A ver good news for IAF as it's active fighter squadron is depleting very fast. What IAF has now 100+ age old Mig-21, Useless Mig-23/27 and Jaguars (4 Sqdons Jags do not have even Radars..unthinkable today)
apart from 100+ Su-30 +50 M2k+60 MIG-29 (Not sure what is the availability % of these ones)..and yet IAF has a task of protecting 100+ crores of it's citizen 3,287,590 Sq KM of land and 2,305,143 Sq.KM of Sea…

and we have been spending billions of USDs to become 1st in Arm Imports..yet the situation of IAF is visible…

What will Indian greedy Politicians and MOD Bureaucrats will do now..and to what depth ,they want to take our country now?

  10. Mysoora Reddy was kicked out of Congress and he then joined TDP. Now he's been kicked out of TDP after he sensed the wind was changing direction in AP politics and joined YSRC. What a rat !
The MoD should stop wasting time and energy by not paying attention to squeaking rats like him – period.
Get on with the contract negotiations so that the country can have the equipment it needs to protect our country !

  11. Mysoora Reddy has jumped from TDP to YSRC. YSRC is home to all the corrupt and incompetent fools. THIS FOOL SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR WASTING THE NATION'S TIME. HE MAY HAVE BEEN PAID OFF BY EADS!!!

  12. when deal is scrapp then whol world laugh on india but minister smile because there white shirt compromize india defence but only short cut have whole fightr grounded and when situation of war created it again grounded and rant forign jet for work good idea

  13. Rafale lobby shd work on AP media to ask mr Reddy shananigans relating to this deal, he will blink big time in front of his voter and shut his mouth forever..

  14. @pankaj: With all respect, maybe you were trying to make an worthwhile point, but it is impossible to understand what you have written.

  15. Check database, 3 eurofighters crashed, 139 F18 get heavy damages or crashed ( +15 crash) and the F18 is a super jet fighter, i have more consideration for the hornet than the eurofighter, the navy version is more dangerous and increase the risk for the pilot to get crash or colision. That explain why Eurofighter make never a navy version, it dont have the know how and it must review all the jet design. The tejas had the merit to do it and not the eurofighter.

  16. Anon @10:53PM

How many tejas divisions are currently operable in IAF?

How many export customers do the tejas have to date?

  17. Hey,
make shure to negotiate hard; Dassault have just offered the Rafale to Swiss AF for precisely the same cost as SAAB Gripen E/F, 22 AC same pricing! Here is a opportunity for IAF to slash the asking price by 40-50%, just relate to the new Swiss offer! A bargain for sure…
