Navy Statement: The Indian Navy got a major fillip to its firepower with the arrival of its latest acquisition INS Tarkash at Mumbai.  Built by the Yantar shipyard, Kaliningrad, Russia,  INS Tarkash was commissioned on 09 Nov 12 by Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Comand.  Tarkash is second of three project 1135.6 (follow-on Talwar class) ships ordered by Indian Navy, the first being INS Teg, which joined the fleet in June this year. Trikand, the third stealth frigate, is likely to be delivered by mid 2013.

Commanded by Captain Antony George, an anti-submarine warfare specialist, and manned by a crew of 23 officers and 228 sailors, INS Tarkash is armed with an advanced combat suite, comprising an optimal blend of Russian and Indian cutting edge technologies. Her arsenal includes the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, surface-to-air missile system, medium range gun, close- in weapon system (CIWS), torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets.

Livefist wishes the ship and her crew safe seas and Shano Varuna.

  1. Thats good to hear, we need more!

I wonder why someone is not asking if Cmdr. Antony George got the job because his name is similar to our RM and/or because he is Christian so must be blessed by Sonia Gandhi.. or some such drivel.

  2. So long as morons such as Heberian are there questioning the religious background of Indians, more so of our defense personnel and equating their position to being of the same religion as that of the Defense Minister and Sonia Ghandi, it takes a lot of progressive minds to propel the country forward.

An Indian citizen of whichever state, religion or social standing should not be disparaged or castigated for his/her background. When the only super power, USA has a black and an alleged Muslim as the president, what is wrong in an Indian citizen of whatever religion getting the honour of being the captain of a warship?

Heberian and his ilk should come out of their race/religious cocoon and see the world as it is and accept whatever is good for India.

  3. @ Heberian…to answer to your narrow minded cave man mentality, probably Captain Anthony Geroge can do his job very well since his family and his prayers are with him!? dugh!!!
BTW is India off limits to Christians according to the gospel of Heberian?

  4. @Heberian

    Stop being stupid.

While anything you or anyone else says might or might not be true.

But going after the "name" without any reasonable facts(which i am sure you dont have) .. in a multicultural society is banishable.

  5. What none of you got is the fact that Heberian is sarcastic and critical of the way in which most of us Indians think.

He is pointing out how every discussion descends into a political or a sectarian one.

Instead of flaming him/her, try to see this point.

  6. Looks to be a pretty formidable frigate, which possibly packs the punch of a destroyer. Still a minimum of 5 follow-ups are required ASAP.

  7. @ anons @ 10:51A & 1:47P & terminator…
i think from from what heberian has written.. he was making exactly the same point as you guys…. he was sarcastically pointing out that some stupid guy will come along and start questioning the religion, race etc of the captain in the comment section…. i think u guys misunderstood what he wrote…
anyways good news…on top of firepower it's one good looking frigate

  8. I Dont see the CIWS in its usual place…has the Kashtan not been fitted on the Teg and Tarkash??

Has the Barak system been fitted instead??

    Thx

  9. seems… the engines are… 2nd hand chinese… seeing how polluting… those are… formidable frigate… with chinese 2nd hand engines… like groshkov… boiler linings…

  10. @Heberian

with your mentality, you would have never made it to the defense forces of India, so I guess you are jealous.
I have pity on you & your retarded mind.
