Unfinished Indian Deals Keep MBDA On Toes

MBDA entered Aero India on a fair high. With a tidy deal for MICA missiles in the bag as part of the IAF Mirage 2000 upgrade package, the company is now looking to close a few more deals quickly. The PARS 3 LR stand-off anti-tank weapon competes to arm the Light Combat Helicopter and Rudra against the Israeli Spike family of weapons. The ASRAAM (shown here in its intended over-wing configuration) is squared off against the Israeli Rafael Python-5. And 10 days from now, MBDA’s Mistral system (yes, that’s me scoping the system out) will be in Ladakh for cold weather trials alongside two other contenders — Russia’s Igla-S and Saab’s RBS 70 NG — towards the Indian Army’s huge $6-billion VSHORADS requirement. MBDA is, of course, also closely monitoring progress on the MMRCA negotiations. A contract there could be one of MBDA’s largest ever.

  1. A shoulder launched SAM is so basic…Why can we not develop a smaller version of Nag?
6 billion is a lot of money. Did this requirement just pop up out of nowhere?
What a waste of an opportunity? The PSU's are zombies and private sector cannot enter this sacred defense territory. But foreign suppliers are always fine.
I can see the Indian crab behavior here in full power.

  2. 6 Billion for VSHORADS???? Even Porkis can make them. They even export the Anza MkIII to Malaysia. They even built the Babur 8 years back while we are yet to test our Nirbhay.

  3. And why do we need the missiles? With 6 Billion we can have 100 more Su-30 MKI's/40 FGFAs which will give us air supremecy

  4. Ever seen the amricans troops bothering about enemy aircraft???????????? Air superiority is possible with SU-30 MKIs and more so with the coming in of AMCA, FGFA and the numerical superiority which will happen once LCA goes into full scale production. It will be a much more sensible to pump the 6 Bn into the Indian Arms Industry. There is a ghotala in the making. Indian Generals dont stirr to preserve their chances to become governorrs.
