What Narendra Modi Saw From INS Vikramaditya’s Deck Today

The air power demonstration for India’s new PM was reportedly cut short today because of weather. But here’s the official low-down of what he say (and these beautiful photographs just in from the MoD): MiG-29K operations, Sea Harriers, P-8I, Tu-142M, Il-38SD, Dornier Do-228, Kamov-28 and Kamov-31, Sea King helicopters. He also witnessed high speed manoeuvres by Western Fleet ships including the other aircraft carrier INS Viraat, Delhi class destroyers Mysore and Mumbai, stealth frigates Tarkash, Talwar and Teg, guided missile frigates Betwa and Godavari and fleet tanker Deepak.

  1. HALLO SHIV
WHAN VIKRMADITYA HAVE SELF AIR DEFENCE SYSTEM LIKE AS CIWS AND BARAK MISSILE SYSTEM.
I READ THE DANIK JAGRAN NEWS PAPER THAT OUR PILOTS COULD NOT OPRETS MIG-29K AIRCRAFT IN RAINY WEATHER.
    PLEASE TELL ABOUT THIS??

  2. Quite paradoxical that while there is a drumbeat for self reliance in defence, the Hon'ble PM was seen goofing around in foreign acquired assets. Maybe there is nothing indigenous to showcase ?

INS Vikramaditya does not have any Close In Support (CIWS) and/or Short/Medium range SAM support and it may not even come in until first retrofit. Very poor planning. INS Vi depends on support ships for CIWS and AD and it is very dangerous. India should have used Russian systems and then may be replaced them during 2nd retrofit by more deployable and formidable one. It is foolish to let such an expensive ship to sail without those important systems…However, Russian Electronic Warfare throws blinders up to 300 Km (?) so may be fighters will scramble in time but there will be no time to respond to fast attack boats and torpedoes…
May be the new government will find a fix quickly…

  4. carrier dont go alone. the support ships will do the job of defending it. and carrier should put concentration on its air capabilities. one major issue is viki has only 12 ac's. should have atleast 30

We spent 2.3 billion dollars and no one will sell such a ship and Mig-29K (a 4++ gen fighter / bomber) for such a price…trust me on this…

India must show some gratitude and immediately ask Russia to immediately install their CIWS and SR-Shitil system to safeguard this mighty ship…It would be a tragedy if something does happen with it and so much weaponry on it…don't hesitate at all..

To wait for yet to developed and tested system is like looking at the skies and wishing for rain to fall…

Israel already developed their Barak-8 with Indian money and installed in their destroyers but they only gave blueprints for seeker and no manufacturing technology…such is the incompetency of bureaucrats…

The first flight is a failure according to news reports…
