Bold and brave steps towards indiginization. Great work! Keep it up.

I think the bad experience with the INS Vikramaditya in terms of delivery brought about us developing and manufacturing this.

In all, invaluable experience will be learnt and India will finally not be dependent on others countries for our carrier requirements.

Thanks for the nice & detailed presentation. Even if it is inducted in 2020 it should serve the nation till 2070, going by the logic as India has history of fielding 50-60 years old carrier.

That pictures good Shiv. Great achievement for India. We need to build 3 nuclear powered aircraft carriers with EMALS, I know next one will be a CATOBAR will be able to operate Rafale-M and F-35.

This is the true & real step taken towards indigenisation of our navy & it's blue water dreams, even though this project experienced delays in various design and manufacturing of carrier grade steel & gear boxes for propulsion somehow these problems were sorted out at the earliest. One big thanks to DMRL, SAIL & Elcon engineering for sorting out the problems & such problems are inevitable during our first home grown AC efforts. Hey wake up ADA & HAL!!!!!!!! in Cochin they are able to construct a 40,000 Ton Aircraft carrier(even though not full completed but within 2018 she will be put… Read more »

They should have gone for this much earlier instead of the used Russkie carrier. The tie-up with the Italians have produced fruits.

I heard the size had increased to 40,000 tons and it generated 80 MW of power using 4 LM 2500 ENGINES instead the schematics show IAC to be 37500 tons with 24 MW power?? did I miss something or are these slides old ?

it would have been better if it had more power….28 knots is not a very good top speed for a STOBAR carrier…more speed translates to increased take off weight for the aircraft and more effectiveness…the americans managed to squeeze in 4 LM2500s into the much smaller(9000t)burke class hulls…we could have atleast gone for 6 or beter 8 gas turbines….with that much power the ship would have made 35 knots easily…

In the 2010 defence reveiw the brits had decided that they would operate just one carrier. So,the second queen elizabeth class carrier is likely to be mothballed or sold.the final decision would be taken in the 2015 defence reveiw.I hope we would be wise and buy it and get it converted to CATOBAR, before someone else buys it on the pretext of a floating casino or theme park. i hope we donot repeat our habbit of being a year too late.the varyag would have been a great buy.the russians were offering gorky for "free" nd we were to pay for the… Read more »

Why is the F-15 on aircraft carrier? Since when Indian navy is so obsessed with F-15? Who ever dumb idea of putting F-15 on Indian aircraft carrier should redraw again.

The F-15 doesn't have the capability to launch from aircraft carrier where ski take off or catuple take off.

The only multirole fighter aircraft jet capable of take off is F-14B/D (retired), F-18C/D, F-18E/F, Dassault Rafale M, Mig-29K, Su-33/J-15, J-31, and Su-50 FireFox naval version.

I agree with Sam Wise on the walk up call for ADA & HAL on the Tejas program.

If we can build a carrier from concept to ship in 10 years; I see no reason that the Tejas should not be flying in IAF colours. What's taking them so long?

@singam viki was completely our fault we chose the shipyard based on L1 , the shipyard had no experience in aircraft carrier, hence no workforce,no specialist contractor or supplier -everything was done for the first time.It specializes in subs , Then we chose to add mill-meter- landing system ,never done on Ac-takes lots of time ,to perfect itThen came the issue of Chinese made heat resistance brick ,epitome of foolishness infact if u look @ where in world u r going to get ac for 2.3 b cost of our own ac is around 5 billion , so bad experience ……entirely… Read more »

Very impressive! Can't wait to see the carrier in sea waters. Way to go Indian Navy and the shipyard!
Nuclear propelled carriers are the next logical step.
