This is getting scary. It won't be long before one of these aircrft manufacturers loses a plane because the journalist does not have enough experience with the plane.

Nothing against you Shiv (like your work matter of fact), but if they are interested in selling the aircraft they should be inviting IAF pilots and letting them fly the Gripen.

Scary stuff. This game of salesman one-upmanship will end in tears.

    Hi Shiv
    CONGRATULATIONS!!
Im really looking forward to your story on HT. now that you have first hand experience of all the frontrunners in the MMRCA, a possible final verdict can be expected from you.

Several swedish journalists has already flown the JAS 39 Gripen in a similar way without accidents. Many of them has been whithout any previous flight experience. As Shiv Aroor has testified the aircraft is very easy to fly with carefree handling. The pilot is also very experienced and can take over quickly if anything would go wrong.

SAAB is very proud of the FCS of the plane and that they let journalists fly is proof of their confidence. Remember that in a state of the art aircraft like Gripen the plane is flown by computers. The pilot just asks the computer to do the manouvers he wants.

Great read Shiv! By the way, I suggest you keep a spare helmet and flight suit ready in your cupboard. At the rate the IAF is losing Migs and pilots, you never know when the IAF will come knocking on your to draft you by force! I guess you must have logged-in a decent number of flight hours by now — 50? or more?!
