"Satpura is the second of the indigenously designed and constructed stealth frigates of the Shivalik Class, built by Mazagon Dock Ltd, Mumbai."

We have come an long way if you ask me. Building an stealth frigate is really something one can be proud of. Three cheers for Navy and Mazagaon Docks Ltd.

these stealth frigates may be hard to detect by other ships but they can be easily detected by submarines. Forget the scorpenes, India must immediately buy or build minimum 6 conventional subs for nominal sea deterrence.

Pity the Indian Navy decided to rely on dated Russian hardware to outfit it, though. Fregat radar, non-VLS Shtil SAM, RBU-6000 mortars are all Soviet vintage technology.

We should look to European suppliers more. Get an AESA radar, VLS, ASROC and a long-range SAM with missile defence capability.

I think India must have at least 12-17 Ships like Saputara and INS Shivalik along all ports in India !!!

Why she does not carry brahmos missile? Are they too heavy? Look at the indonesian navy they re-engined their second hand leander class frigates and armed them with 4 yakohant anti ship missile if leanders can carry as many as 4 missiles then why shivalik which are far more heavier than leanders does'nt carry 8 brahmos. Now our own Ins ranvir carries 8 brahmos and it is equal in displacement to shivalik class. They also lacks torpedo tubes so they also rely on their VLS to launch ASW missiles. at the indonesian navy they re-engined their second hand leander class frigates and armed them with 4 yakohant anti ship missile if leanders can carry as many as 4 missiles then why shivalik which are far more heavier than leanders does'nt carry 8 brahmos.
