DRDO Statement On Nirbhay Test

Long range cruise missile Nirbhay was successfully launched today at 1150 hrs from launch complex, Chandipur, Odisha,  meeting the basic mission objectives successfully.  After travelling approximately mid-way, deviations were observed from its intended course.  Further, flight was terminated to ensure coastal safety.

  1. Successful!!! half way I think.
How can the missile test be successful when the intended target or complete flight path is not completed.

Anyways learn from mistakes and carry-on.

Good luck for the next one!!!

  2. over hyped drdo & its sky-high claims has been grounded. Its a huge blow to indigenisation of weapons. India should import all weapons from foreign & should close all desi defence equipment manufacturers to save money.

  3. Good that start has been made. This missile will anyway be tested many times before induction which is imminent. So not complete success on first flight is insignificant.

  4. its very easy to seat in a Comfortable Bed n Criticize Drdo for its faliure.Atleast they are trying ,faliure doesnt mean end,it means they get the shit fault rectified n test again…..indegenious Production of weapon is necessary it has It Wide repurcussions and has its effects in policy making.

  5. Well at first Nirbhay is no different from Tomahawk,DRDO should have developed Nirbhay in early 90's itself so as usual DRDO is late in business if at least had DRDO designed a advanced stealth shaped cruise missile like AGM-158 JASSM & if the test had been a failure it would have been appreciable.

Here DRDO is not able to successfully test a subsonic cruise missile itself.Shame even Paks have a cruise missile.

Thumbs up to OUR DRDO jokers…..

hey boss my comment might look silly to you,but during the scenario of war on INDIA if our own home made cruise missiles are outmatched when compared to low observable cruise missiles like AGM-158 which can be delivered from stealth fighters like F-22 OR F-35JSF hence the whole platform from deployment till missile strikes the target virtually goes undetected.

Chinese have their prototype Stealth fighters as well as cruise missile like CJ-10,Where is India's Stealth AMCA ? & When Nirbhay becomes fully operational ? Even DRDO babus might not know the time frame.

Had Nirbhay been a low observable stealth cruise missile incorporating a latest technologies DRDO's effort would have been appreciable simply Nirbhay is an age old missile that would have been effective some 25 years back.

  10. Listen Sam, who told you Nirbhay is not having the latest tech. Cruise missiles are stealthy because they are terrain hugging and can fly at tree level too. The problem was the internal navigation system. This has been rectified. I agree DRDO has has a laggered approach in most projects LCA and many others. Missiles definitely have had no compromise, our missiles are among the very best in the world. Wait till 2014 and Nirbhay will be operational I assure.
