  1. even though it looks like raptor at 1st sight, its really not.

the frontal section(image 3)clearly shows, the air intakes are wide as in pak-fa to accomodate more weapons, whereas in raptor both the air intakes almost touch each other at the bottom of the fuselage.

i would estimate a internal weapons bay capacity to 4ton atleast. anything less then 3ton, will be really disappointing.

  2. @ani. You are right in many ways.Maybe India should invite private military contractors to speed up the R & D process. Just look at Boeing and Lockheed Martin in the USA.DRDO just doesn`t have the financial or human resource muscle to single handedly develop 4th gen fighters

  3. hahaha this is all DODO is good at, making models for display. Give it to us at BR and we can make a great design in a matter of a year or 2. Stupid DODOs

  4. Wow, that's changed a lot, hasn't it?
They've redesigned the wing, though now it looks more like a 4th generation flanker wing than the swept-back trapezoidal wings of the American/Russian designs.
Canopy has the same issue… Almost like they've borrowed it from an LCA wind-tunnel model.
But it's much sleeker now: looks like they've been very observant about the lines on the F-22, and avoided the central bulk of the F-35. Over all, it reminds me of the Mitsubishi ATD-X more than any other 5th gen design.

I would't say its full stealthy. But it looks awesome. Hope the fine one is better then this and better in stealth.

if you could have, then why didnt you? you RATshakers come here and whine like morons. Take pics and send it to Shiv, I'm sure he wouldnt mind putting them up. If you cant, shut it and accept whats on here without pissing from your mouth.

    @dude

I wouldn't go with your comments of clicking better picture then SHIV. Why don't you go and do it and show us your qualities.

This guy is trying his best to keep us posted. Please do not put a question on Shiv's effort.

  8. Killer looks!! AMCA is the first stealth aircraft in the 20 Ton category and They have done a lot of redesigning over the last AI's Wind tunnel model…The canopy now truly looks like a 5th Gen one..The structure is sleeker and hopefully stealthier than the wind tunnel model..I just hope they deliver their best and deliver it on time so that mass production can begin from 2018-2020..We need at least 500 of these birds in our Airforce by 2030…India has got to shed the sheath of false modesty and race for the stars..This is our time..

Best of Luck DRDO and HAL

PS: Shivji, as many others, I too would like to have a dorsal view of the bird..

  9. Just one question … how are you guys making a blanket statement that this is not going to be stealthy?

As far I see this plane is perfectly edgematched. There are only
    1. Right leading edge (right air intake, right main wing leading edge, elevator leading edge, right elevator inner trailing edge, vertical stabilizer leading edge)
    2. Right trailing edges (main wing and elevator outside trailing edge and vertical stabilizer trailing edge)
    3. Wingtip edges (main wing inside delta leading edge, main wing main tip, elevator wing tip and vertical stabilizer wing tip)
    4,5,6. Ditto for left side.

So there are just 6 edges!! Compare this with the J-20

The elevators are neatly tucked behind the wing.

The vertical stabilizers are alligned with the underbelly in the vertical plane.

The bottom is flat and the wing and the upper fuselage is beautifully blended giving very low side RCS too.

I can't see why it is not more stealthy than the J-20 and as stealthy as the f-22 when it comes to body shaping.

  10. i'm hoping this AMCA will be in service by 2020 anything beyond would be heartbreaking they should learn there mistakes from the LCA program and this time not have any cost overruns or delays

it looks like a little bigger than the F-35 and just a bit smaller than the PAKFA

  11. AMCA is a great thinking. this aircraft can eliminate the need of f35 in indian airforce. but for doing that I think HAL and ADA should invite some other foreign company to be partner in project. In my opinion Dassault aviation would be best choice, since France and India has agreed go beyond buyer seller relationship. French would also be thinking of a fifth generation fighter and they are involved in f35 JSF project. Developing AMCA with them will add lot of better features avionics, radar ( India can utilize this as opportunity do develop a very good radar in partnership, which can solve problem of radar development for future fighters), improvement in airframe if required, sharing of production cost and above all AMCA can be developed to be a very modern state of art metal bird to go neck to neck with f35 in global arms race.

  12. IAF is a fickle customer. ADA should design AMCA for the IN. Better to have a smaller serious client than a whimsical larger client to prove your product. I am quite sure it will be easier to obtain export orders once IN starts using the aircraft. IAF can keep scouring the international markets forever.

  13. ADA should think differently for India's first stealth plane. Why not a delta winged tailless twin engined stealth plane. There will be fewer edges to return radar signals. Keep the Indian navy interested, IAF is unreliable.

  14. The overall design might be OK for a stealth plane, but ADA should make it ultra low observable. Compromises will lead to issues later with the problematic 'customer'.

  15. When this 5th generation aircraft will be brought into service? My guess is not earlier than 2025 by that time other countries would be using 7 th generation fighter aircraft! god help us all!

  16. Stealthy ??
    It is anything but stealthy.
Its 4th genration twin engined aircraft model.

To those who are expecting it to be in production run by 2018????
    you need a life.

They havent got LCA MK1 on proper production. MK2 protoype is nowhere ready. heck they still have to integrate F-414 to the LCA and do a hell lot of testing.
getting LCA MK-2 in production in itself will be an achievement. AMCA is a far cry
